    The plumber ran a pvc sch. 40 waste line about 1/4" away from a 1 1/4" iron monoflow loop heating pipe which feeds hot water baseboards. This near contact point occurs at a 90 degree bend, so if I push the two pipes together, there is only contact at that point as opposed the two two pipes running parallel. I expect the water temperature will be about 180 degrees in the heating pipe. Will there be a problem with the pvc melting or becoming brittle from the heat? I could not find anything on line about this and plumber says its fine.

    It's rated for 140 degree water.

    I can't say for sure that your scenario is OK, but I'd wrap the pvc loosely(leave what ever air gap possible) w/ some light gauge aluminum or that shiny pipe wrap and I wouldn't lose sleep.

      That's what I was looking to hear. I have enough room to get a little insulation in between the two. I will give that a shot.

        The continuous service temperature limit for PVC is 160 degrees F. Max deflection temp is 154 degrees F. PVC is not rated for hot water service. The melting point is 360 degrees F.

        Since this is a drain line and not under any pressure, there should be no problem as long as you take the suggestion to insulate the area around the potential point of contact.

            I would take a piece of Hardy board tile undelayment and put between the two pipes. That would insulate it fully. this is the 1/4 gypsum tile undelayment material. I may be calling it by the wrong name.
