Oh crap ! Almost hit that guy in that new Caddy.....

Yeah, that's what I thought, last Monday or Tuesday, when I was coming back from an estimate, traveling down the back roads of the land of the lost...

I had my Michelins on there, as you can see in the pics, but for some reason they were just not gripping the road as they should have. The tire dealer (mom and pop place I go to) said that my truck is small, lightweight, and if the tires are more than a few years old, they're a little hardened by now, especially since I had the truck sit for a few months, a year or so back, when I had the engine rebuilt. so I had him put on some new skins.

BFG All Terrains..... Nice and aggressive, a little noisy, but not overwhelming....

Why ? BFG All Terrains ?

I have a good friend who has only used them since the 1980's and he swears up and down by them. He gets an average 90 to 100K on them, and he drives a 90's expedition, and talked me into them. They're one set of sticky tires, and from what I understand, will get me out of any snow bank that my suspension will handle.... I'll let you know, this winter.

What are you guys running ? Hit any $50K + Cadillacs lately? I sure as hell didn't want to.

I run Cooper Discoverer ATR's on my F-250. They're 10 ply. I'm on my second set. Last set gave me 87,000 miles. I don't know if I would run anything else. They stick to the road well. My buddy just bought a 2010 F-150. They come with the Hancook brand tires. I've driven his truck a few times. They seem to perform very well.
Chuck, I have had Michelins before on other trucks, they have been good as well. I switched to the Cooper's on a mechanics recommendation.

I grew up on Goodyear's but have happily run Michelin X-Rad's on the truck and BFG AT's on the Jeep for over ten years.

I've never gone over 32 k on a set of tires! I might try these. How is the gas mileage?

I have 33" BFG AT's on my old 1973 Bronco. I have been very happy with them. They handle snow pretty good too. Not that I see much snow down here in Mississippi. I used to take it up in the mountains when I lived in Seattle.

When I first bought the truck I put on some Yokohama's. They were very impressive off-road. Not so much on the road, though. Of course, that was 20 years ago!

At first glance I assumed this was another thread about prophylactics.

                  Re: Baloney Skins

I started with the BFG AT's back in the early 90's and have had them on every truck since them. I normally get about 70k on a set. I also have put BFG's on every car I have owned for the last 10 years or so (since I got married and had cars around), so I guess I have been happy with them. I did have cooper discoveries on a used truck I bought and they wore out real fast. I don't know how old they were when I got the truck, so that isn't much help.

                    Re: Baloney Skins

I have Grabber AT2s going on my F250 tomorrow.

BFG ATs are next to impossible to get in certain sizes and load ranges. I should know, I've been looking to buy a set for 11 months!

I ended up getting the LAST FOUR Grabber's (same tread) in the CONUS.

Apparently, the tire companies have throttled back production and now can't keep up.

Just a note that Sam's club has $60 off sets of 4 BFG's right now. Of course we just put a set on the impala last month.

                          Re: Baloney Skins

I have to put tires on my box truck, and after talking to people left and right, I'm pretty sure I'm going to get them from TIRERACK.com.

They have a 10 ply E rated tire that has excellent ratings, and are relatively inexpensive. I wanted to get a 14 ply rated tire, but they don't exist in a 235/85R16. The truck has 215/85R16's but that is an even more limited size tire.

The tire rack tire is this one, and so far, I haven't read anything bad about them... and they're $100 less per tire than what I was originally looking at...

                          http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

I was originally looking at GY tires, but for $100 extra per tire, It's just not worth it...

                          Anyone know of a 16" tire with a 14 ply rating ?
