I agree with Dutch on use makes a big difference. I have had an electrical hammer drill that bogs down as I drill. I cannot imagine the batteries lasting too long on tough concrete.
Everyone talks about the beauty and joy of going cordless. But I have to tell you the aggravation of a battery going dead in the middle of the job is not that much difference in the aggravation of having a cord come unplugged or getting tangled up on something. At least to me.

For hammer drills, go with a corded model. However, most Bulldogs I have run across have an oil leak at the function dial.

I'm totally agree with you. I'm a Bosch man myself, but the Makita is a solid offering. Being that you're planning on using it for light homeowner use, I would go with the Makita. I've never had any problems with any of the Makita tools I've owned.

Makita XRH04Z. Perforator beast! We use Makit's tool for several years, we work in the furniture workshop. No complaints. Here we decided to update the punch, but it was Chinese. once again convinced of the quality. No money is not sorry. I advise everyone, take my word.

As a finish carpenter, I like Bosch Table and Miter Saws, Makita hand tools. As a homeowner, I like Makita's battery powered line as one can purchase leaf blowers, chainsaws, and string timmers.

Air Center distributes controllers, DC electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools. We carry many brands like Makita, unfortunately, we do not have Bosch although I am familiar with their products and quality performance. I've probably owned 25-30 Bosch products over the years. In my experience the last several years have been disappointing. I've had 5 cordless drills just quit on me. Certainly not as a result of hard work or abuse. Most of the their time has been spent in my shop. Bosch did replace one out of the five but it seems like they're manufactured with planned obsolescence and die soon after the three year warranty expires. I'm guessing the problem is switch or electrical connection related and that Bosch has to know they have this problem.
On the other hand I have a Makita router and circular saw for over 35 years and they're still working fine. I like the ergonomics and the performance for the Bosch's but a tool isn't any good when it quits in the middle of a job.
I also have a Bosch 8" saw and demolition hammer that are over 25 years old and still working fine. For me from this point on there's no Bosch's in my future, only Makita.

So many more tools offered on the Makita battery platform, not even a contest anymore. However, I still like Bosch Miter and Table saws.

for me almost too many options. I think they have something like 8 or 10 18 volt drills with different sizes of chucks or hammer mode while others don't. Same with their impacts. I have never really researched it but usually just buy whatever is on sale or at the big box store or the CPO sites or what looks like it is what will do the job.

                              I trust the Bosch more.
