    Re: Iphone Apps

That Dimentions app is the coolest thing. That's what is making me itch the most.

I was trying to buy Steve Taylor's "I want to be a Clone" from the '80's, and I don't remember the other one... If you have to ask about Steve Taylor um... well he produced the Newsboys for a while there.

I don't know if it's my credit card or the bank line or what the card works else where (some times it works too good.)

      Jesse,
I wondered what you were doing on your phone through that whole four-hour presentation! :)
I'll have to check out that new calculator. Sounds very cool. And the dimension thing...I've always had to shoot a picture with my camera and write down notes. Very cool.

Here's the link to the earbuds:
      http://www.ultimateears.com/_ultimateears/

I stopped carrying my Bose headphones on the airplane. These earbuds are almost as good and much easier to carry plus they have a microphone so you can pick up a call on your phone--the ipod just stops playing and the call comes through. magic. Honest, the real reason I like the iphone is because it's all fun and not like work at all. My old Treo was all work and no play.

I used this new Dimentions app that I got to make this picture for my design in SU. Its so usefull! Sure you can just make a drawing and write it down...But Im not going to work on this for a week or so..and The odds of me losing my hand written drawing are pretty high. This stays on my phone and I emailed it to myself onsite. To store it under my clients folder on my PC.
        Arch,

I downloaded 'My Measures & Dimensions' to my iTouch, which appears to be similar to the 'Dimensions' app you have. I agree that having an iPhone shortens the process you described above (primarily because an iPhone has a camera and an iTouch doesn't), but you can take a picture with your cell phone and send it to your iTouch, then apply measurements before sending them off to a client. A lengthier process for sure, but doable.

          Over Builders,

yeah that is the app! "My Measures & Dimentions"
          Its so cool.

          Gary,

what model earbuds do you have from that site?
Does it have the 3way button mic like the Apple ones do, for skipping/pausing songs, answering calls, Accessing Voice control?

            Re: Iphone Apps

Sorry! I think I posted the wrong link.
            Here's the style I bought:
UB7EB Ultimate Buds Apple / Future Sonics FS1 (iPhone 3GS and iPod with Volume)
            And here's the correct site:
            http://ultimatebuds.com/store/home.php

            I love 'em.
They have volume control. The volume control works on my iphone but not my ipod. I never figured out how to make it work, maybe. And I haven't figured out how to skip/pause music. I just stick them in my ears and listen to the Ipod mostly on planes. I use a blue-tooth earpiece for my phone...if I want to suffer being 'available' that much.

              Re: Iphone Apps

I had custom ear inserts made for my ear-buds after seeing a show that said it cut down on external noise and allowed the same amount of music "feel" with a lower volume. They really make a difference blocking out noise.

                cool thanks Gary,

On the 3Gs iphone with the apple buds supplied, you can control more than just volume.

-Click the center to answer calls
                - Double click the (volume up or down button) to skip songs in forward or backward direction.
                - Press center once to pause songs
-Hold Center down for 3 seconds to acess voice control ( Awesome for driving!)

There could be more funtions as well...Im not sure. But its totally hands free when working solo and listening to tunes or driving. Its really cool to be able to hang crown on a scafolding and take that important call from the wife, and not miss a beat ;)

I dont understand half of it...but it has EXTREMELY easy to use Help menus. That are accessed just by pressing down for 3 seconds on the feature you want to use. A menu pops up and has illustrations and a walkthrough of how to use the feature. Its almost like having GaryK right at your finger tips to explain how to use the calculations

Totally worth the $20.00! I like it much better than Inchcal+ or Carpenters helper PRO because of this help menu. They all will perform the same function. But some times its hard to remember the proper formulas. Thats where Buildcalc excels. Check it out
Same here on BuildCalc. I saw the guy who developed the program come on here and CT and so I was naturally curious about it. I purchased the CH and inchcalc before only to be sadly disappointed. I have been using this for a few weeks now and I am sold. $20 is cheap for a CM Pro and from my understanding, the Trig is in the works. It acts and functions just like the CM. It is well worth it. I am working in cold weather and for the moment I am having slight trouble with my frozen fingers getting the numbers punched in right.

The developer is responsive also. I've sent him a few emails and he responds back...imagine that.

Someone turned me onto Shazam. If there's a song on the radio you like, but don't know what it is, turn the app on, put the iPhone up to the speaker and it will tell you what's playing.

iTalk is great for recording. The quality is astounding.

Dragon Dictation I have heard is great. I havent tried it yet.

And someone mentioned to me lately Bing is on there now. That is one curious site. I think it may just give Google a run for their money.

                    Re: Iphone Apps

The earbud guy is responsive also, he answered my dB rating on earbuds as follows:

The UB7 has been tested at 34-36dB noise isolation using the REAT method. Our other models have not been tested so I don't have numbers for you. Approximations are UB7EB = 27 dB and UB5 = 20dB.

Of course there are alot of factors at play including your specific physiology (shape of your ear canal) so you may or may not obtain these levels of isolation.

This iPhone is beginning to sound more and more productive and FUN, making work fun and getting to have all MY music with me...
