went to a brand new house today to give an estimate for an over the mantel.... and saw this bead board design under the bar counter with the backer and chairrail also.... the superintended said the lady wanted it that way.......... how suckie is this....

Please don't put all the blame on the owner. Unless they have designed trim schemes with stock moldings before, they really don't have a clue how to put things together.

The revered tradesman that did this for the owner should be taking more than half the blame.

A good trim carp that knows her stuff should be able to suggest a composition for the owner that makes sense aesthetically.

If she doesn't, maybe she oughta be doing something like finishing concrete for a living.

I agree, the trim carpenter should have steped up and said no, it should be done this way and would look much better, I know the lady would have gone for that, just from discussing the over the mantel that I will be doing and giving her ideas.

The problem with giving the customer exactly what they want is that they rarely know the difference between crap like that and proper use of trim and molding profiles. I always try to lead and manipulate their thought processes so that I avoid having to install trim like that. it doesn't always work just right but when it does they usually thank me for it later. That's bad publicity for the super and the carpenter.

I dunno, I was just looking at Arch. Digest & would have to say that trim detail was at least as good as half of what they are touting. Then I was up in a McMansion Farm, & I would have welcomed something like that trim detail.

Oh, yeah, then IKEA opened up a store about a mile from my house. You know what's gonna be happening in low/med trimland now...

I took it as a using the female generic over the male for personal political reasons? IE: Why imply that it was a man when it could of been a women.

Titmas, these folks likely can build stuff better 'n you.

Maybe the only women that'll consort with you are not capable people, but there are a lot of women in construction, and plenty of them could be your boss.

And if you are barking around with that attitude, you better see that men do your food prep, otherwise you might find yourself trying to digest a little rat poison.
