  • Business Name

Hello all. I am looking for feedback in regards to my company name. After attending a training seminar this weekend, I have changed the way I look at my business. It is now not just something I do that is a reflection of me, but it is also something I want the option to sell when I'm ready to move on or retire, or just if the right offer comes along. My company name is :

    Wright By Design, Inc.
    A Design/Build and Renovation Company

The above is how it is presentend on all letterhead, business cards, etc. Here is my quandry: When I named my business, people thought (think) it is a creative use of word play, and in general, they like it. But, is it a name that is too personalized that might hinder someone who might consider buying it. Is it too unique, or is that a good thing? I have considered changing to to WBD, Inc., which represents the same thing, or to something like Wright & Co., Inc.

Just looking for honest feedback and trying to figure out if this name will be helpfull or possibly hurt me in the long run.

    Regards,

    Peggy

    Peggy,

I think the name of your company is fine.
Anybody who doesn't like it should be wacked!

I like the name and play on words. Leave it alone. Good luck! R

Think about what you're selling if you sell your business.

If you sell your business I would expect that the name would eventually change anyway.

Do what makes you feel right about your business name.

            Peggy,

I like your company name, but I do feel if you have an eye on selling at some point in the future, a name like WBD, Inc. may be better. In the event of a sale, you want the focus to be on the business, not on you. That's my 2 cents.

              Re: Business Name

              I agree with bobl...

Here's our scenerio;¿J.P.Camozzi Contracting, inc." is my company name which turns about $1 mil a year on upper end remodels and a custum home here and there. We also own "Facelifts", a kitchen and bath renovation division that could be sold off if ever viable.
See, I didn't want my family name posted on the lower end stuff because of the risk to reputation and the success of personal reference. In fact, having a subsidiary boosted confidence of the upper end clients... they feel they have the "A" team on their project.
              Arrogant, possibly, but effective never-the-less.

p.s. I've enjoyed all your input to this site (new visitor), thought I've give some back. Good luck.

                Re: Business Name

Thanks so much for your responses. What we have decided to do is to make another company called Wright and Associates that will handle all of our upcoming land/real property purchases. Wright By Design, Inc. will be a separate organziation, although we are going to probably move it to WBD, Inc., A Design/Build and Renovation Company.

I appreciate the thought you all put into your responses.

Hey Peggy, I saw your article in the paper. You were answering a question on diff. in custom and production prices. Well thought out answer, better than what I would have said which would have most likely offended some readers. Nice picture too, good marketing tool. Are you actually located in Indiana?
I ask because the article I saw was in the Indy Star. Carl.

Yep. Live on the west side right by Eagle Creek and Rick' Boatyard. Moved up here from Mooresville last summer.

                    Thanks for the comments.
