    Favorite Apps Thread

Hello everyone - Randy suggested we start a thread that could capture eveyrone's favorite Apps - so here it is ! To make this as useful as possible, please include as much info as you can - at least enough that we can find it again.

    - Name of the App (and please fact-check this by doing a Google Search before you post it - the right thing should come up).

    - What it's for -- Project management, Personal, whatever

    - The URL of the company /app. Don't waste time typing- just load it up in a browser, click in the address bar to highlight the entire URL, then press CNTL-C (Copy) to copy it to your clipboard... jump back over to your thread/post and paste using CNTL-V

    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mint-...300238550?mt=8

    - If you can provide a screenshot - that's always good. (The Android and iPhone app stores usually have images you can copy/paste) If not - don't worry

    - Anything else you want everyone to know. Why you like it, etc., and the price is always good to know

Doesn't just have to be an App - if it's conventional PC software, a website - whatever - that's all good.

    JLS

PS - I don't think we can have a poll on each post - usually just one for the whole thread , but I'm going to check with Brad to see if it's something he can add.

I have been using Timewerks on my iPod touch for a couple years now. Other than the office computer sync-which it may do ? Timewerks does the rest of your list including an email invoice.

A few weeks ago someone recommended Truecaller, at this point I can say that it really works. So far I've bought no extras, any spam/telemarketing call you can block so they can't call again, you can even send the number to their database so their calls will be blocked to all Truecaller users. No more solar panel telemarketers, no more "This is Google, you know Google", I'm down to getting about one a day now and as soon as I hang up I block that number. It apparently works on all Android, iPhones, and Windows phones. Looking at all the VC money they have received I have to wonder how they intend to monetize it, I guess they'll have to start charging at some point, but from what I'm seeing now I'd pay if they did.

I will give it a try.
This consulting gig really has a lot of backup info needed to be documented.

Fieldlens, Fieldwire and now KO Punchlist, I guess after Fieldwire having raised over 8mil everybody wants to get into the construction app biz and live off investor money.

Only one flaw with these similar construction apps. Everybody must be on board. That one person in the chain who doesn't use it, or doesn't use it in real time and it's useless.

    site time
    expert witness time
And do multiple jobs. Don't care if it's free but it would be nice to start out that way and move up to a paid version. Also it would be nice to have it on the office computer synced to the mobile and have the ability to generate an invoice.
Don't ask for much do I.
BizXpensTrkr is what I use for mileage, expenses, time, and income, all in one package. With this on my iPad, and iPhone, I can know at any given time where I'm at on any job. They are synced together by backing up on one, then restoring on the other. Many options include syncing with iCloud, Dropbox, or Box, as well as numerous other options in the Preferences. You can set almost any possible options. There are a very few, (I think 4), in app purchases to add features, if I remember correctly between $2-$5 each. You can upload to excel or print out details of your choice. I highly recommend it!

I think this is worth keeping an eye on. Greatly expands the ipads capabilities.

BTW - I use SnagIt to generate much of the screenshot artwork you see in my JLC and other Hanley-Wood columns. Even though there are free alternatives, there's no better way to get the job done IMO.

Here is how I have used the Skitch features within Evernote. In this instance the building owner wanted aluminum railing custom made, so I submitted this picture along with about 4 others.Sketchrailing.jpg

I also have submitted pictures to have a manufacturer design a PVC balustrade system on EPDM roof areas.

It is especially helpful when I look at kitchen remodels; I can create a note and share it with my designer.

Can't the person wielding the ban-hammer also delete the spam post?

Anyways... Discovered this new app 2 months ago.

    android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...noolyapp&hl=en

    iphone: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nool...495150606?mt=8

Provides fine-grained (for your exact location; in 5-minute, 15-minute, or 1-hour increments) weather forecasts.

I'm mostly building decks & fences & pergolas lately; this app is a gamechanger.
