    Re: Favorite Apps Thread

    This isn't construction related.

I'd like to recommend cyclemeter http://www.abvio.com/cyclemeter/ which is a GPS app available for iphone and android. It's made for cycling but can be used for running, walking, hiking. You could even use it to track vehicle mileage for billing. It spits out a detailed map of your ride on google maps, this is one of my rides http://maps.google.com/?q=http://sha...10716-1008.kml. It even gives you time splits. I've checked it with my bike computer and it's dead nuts accurate. For $5 it a very useful app that rivals a $300 running or cycling gps

        Re: Favorite Apps Thread

I just had a warranty claim on a job with a glass front on a oven that shattered. The service company that came replaced it and had me sign to ok it on his smart phone.

He said they use an app that has a service fee of $20 per month. He emailed me the receipt right there.

I sure would like to know the name of that app. Sounds like something we could use daily.

            I just got this in my email, have not used it;

            I'll look into it latter.

I checked out the site and video. Looks very interesting. I also signed up to be a beta tester for Android.

                Re: Favorite Apps Thread

I recently finally got a smartphone. Ended up with the Motorola Photon. Still getting used to all its capabilities. I also got the Car Dock (should be Truck Dock) to go along with it.

The stock car dock app that automatically comes up is ok but I have been using Car Dashboard which allows a little more customization and shows speed, altitude, location on the main screen.

Google's Gesture Search is a really nice search engine. You can search contacts, apps, music, etc... by just drawing the letters on the screen rather than using the keyboard.

And Vlingo Virtual Assistant lets you just speak what you want to do.

I am sure I will find more...

I've been using Egnyte based on someone's recommendation here. I like it. It solved our file sharing/storing problems very inexpensively. I think I'm paying 24.99 per month right now and it has performed perfectly.

Anyone have a free app for taking a picture and then writing on it? I take lots of pictures and would like to take a photo of an issue or something and be able to write over the photo and circle the item and put down a short note. Anyone know of a very simple one? I have my measure but can't see where I can do this.

Andoid or Iphone? For android, Picsin will do what you want.

On a related note: for circling stuff in picsin... but also (mainly) for choosing the right cell in spreadsheets... for anything where a finger's just a bit too fat: I got a capacitative stylus last week. LOVING this accessory... best 10 bucks I ever spent:

Use My Measures and Dimensions if it is an iPhone. You can take or import a picture, note it then email it if needed.

D measures free for android. The only free app that I liked so much that I went and paid for it, even though the free version was all I needed. Very similar to My measures and dimensions as described above.

I use an Android app called Laser Level. Line up the green line with a roof line and read the angle on the screen. Convert angle to pitch with Construction Master Pro another Android app.
