I would be glad to comment, but first could you tell me why you're asking and what your relationship is to the cracker house?

      Re: Request for Riversong

I have no relationship with the cracker house as such.

After the storm season that brought us Francis and Jeanne, I was trying to get info on solar and ran across this on line. I found the house to be very attractive. I feel like the HOs did a great job constructing the house. And of course I am fascinated by publicized efficiency of the house.

Just a couple of years ago,,,,,,,,,,,just a few months ago nobody was even talking about these kinds of buildings and now we are finally starting to have more dialog regarding these kinds of structures. I have spoken to a couple of local architects about designing a more eco friendly and a more hurricane resistant kind of building. Seems like these guys can’t even think about anything other than,,,,,,,more of the same (Mc mansion style) crap.

I posed my question to you hoping that you would respond with the first thing that popped into your head. But low and behold your first response was,,,,,,,,guarded.
      I wonder why?

I was just hoping that (given the limited info about the building) you would critique the structure.

Because I've had people pose similar questions without revealing that they were the builder or owner and it was a setup for a fight - sortof like "I dare you to knock this off my shoulder".

I was just hoping that (given the limited info about the building) you would critique the structure.
Well, if you've been following my comments on this forum, you'd know that I don't just toss of first thoughts, but take the time for well-considered and well-researched answers.

After I read your initial post, I read the entire Florida Cracker website. But it's too late tonight for a thorough response (I'm getting up early tomorrow to snowshoe the tallest peak in Vermont), so I'll get back to you when I have more time.

Thanks for the link to the site. It's a very impressive project - one of the most well-considered ones I've seen. But I do have some criticisms.

Sorry, and I know this is totally off topic, but... I just gotta know what's the tallest peak in Vermont? Something like, 700'? Wait, you've got some foothills... 3,000'?

Well, it ain't quite 5,000' but 4393' is a lot of mountain in the northeast. That's above timberline and the windchill is going to be subzero tomorrow.

Remember that 6288' Mt. Washington has the highest recorded wind speed on earth (231 mph), and people die with some regularity on its flanks, of hypothermia or avalanche.

Mt. Mansfield rises out of Smuggler's Notch, through which Vermonters brought illegal Canadian whiskey during prohibition, and which is closed off to vehicles in the winter, as are a few other notches. Smuggler's is a popular spot for ice climbing this time of year.

We are at a whopping 1500 feet and tree line is at about 1504. Great views with out those trees, but the wind... :)

                              Of course... :)

They must have been partying too much 2 nights ago as we were woken up in the middle of the night as the earth shock. I hate quakes that wake you up.

On a side note last night at a birthday party for the state - Palin actually defended the I can see Russia comment. Amazing.

You can not see Russia from anywhere in Alaska, except Little Diomede Island; a place where most have never been - let alone heard of before September and the asinine foreign policy claims.
