  • Ipe' posts crack

4 x 4 Ipe' posts on an outdoor shower were sealed on the top ends with the wax emulsion, brush on sealer. two months later cracks began to form along the length of the posts. Never saw that on the deck posts made of ipe'. But the deck post ends were covered with railing boards. No surface finish on either. Client wanted the "driftwood" appearance..

Is this bad wood? Would copper end caps on the post tops help this?
