Default the breaker panel inside my '83 SO CAL condo...

is mounted in a livingroom wall, between the same 2 studs as the 3/4" gas line & water supply line for washer. next 16" contains washer dwv. (but it IS about as close as you can be to elec point of entry)

not the safest location i can think of... then there's the furniture conflict... should/can relocation be considered?

it doesnt have a "main"

appliance disconnects, sure. but before that even, it seems to me that "indoor mains" should be required for all utilities to make sure the resident (even the babysitter) can do a quick & easy emergency shut down. so why arent they?

it contains fewer breakers than spaces & fewer wires than terminals...

but it still looks too crowded or tight inside for me. maybe i want to add another panel so i can spread things out a little?

I have a couple of questions about this panel. First is this panel a split buss panel? In other words is there two pole breakers on top with one of them that turns all the lights off or is there a panel on the outside with breakers in it?
Next does this panel have problems other than it is in an unwanted space?
When the panel was installed it must have met the code at that time. If it is on one side of the wall and the plumbing and washer is on the other I see no problem.
Will it be worth the expense of moving it to another place?

Why are you making an issue out of this? Sounds like a perfectly reasonable 22 year old installation. What is the danger you see with this?
