We just bought 250 sq. ft of floor tile (probably ceramic, possibly porcelain) from Craigslist. It's for new construction and we're at the stage that we're getting ready to sheetrock in a couple weeks. We live in northern NH, so the outside temp is often below freezing in winter, and sometimes gets below zero at night. The most convenient way for us to store the tile for the next couple months would be outside, on a pallet, under a tarp. The tile would get very cold and the moisture under the tarp would freeze/thaw. We're thinking it may be okay to store the tile this way knowing that tile can be used outside for patio floors and that some retailers even store their tile outside (although maybe not in northern NH in January). If the moisture freezing/thawing might damage the tile, then we'll store it inside instead, and hope it doesn't get knocked around too much as other work gets done in the house. Does anyone have experience storing tile outside in a cold climate winter, especially in a situation where it isn't in a storage shed, so there will be more moisture freezing and thawing?
