Resurfacing a porch with metal columns present.
We have a front porch badly in need of a new surface but there is a large painted metal pillar with a "collar" base at each corner. We hope that this "collar" can be raised up the column shaft so that we can resurface unimpeded up to the shaft and then lower the "collar back in place. We are do-it-yourself homeowners so we do not know if this is possible or even how this column was constructed. The home is 24 years old.

Mrs. Paw, thanks for identifying yourself as DIY.
For that I give you credit.
Now to business:
This forum is designed and used by persons making their income from working in the construction business.
As a DIYer there are other places to find your answers.
Some here may be interested in working with you offline, hopefully that will get you what you need.
Good luck with your project.

Thank you Bill and sorry about that too. I stumbled on your great site researching proper stain for that door in the photo. I will be a reader now and in the future. Brenda
