Found this while cleaning the shop
The material at least.
Legs are ipe, bow tie maple, seat walnut with a cherry band, exposed Domino's are steamed birch. There are 6 quarter sawn white oak Domino's in each leg assembly. Finish is Surfix oil, still needs to be buffed.

Re: Found this while cleaning the shop
It was built from a single fixture.

Pretty cool. I think you might want to add a stretcher between the legs though.

Re: Found this while cleaning the shop
The Dominos running through the top are 3" long, so 2.5" into the legs. They do not move with my weight (205 lbs.) on the end of them. The Dominos horizontal in the legs are 4.5" long and the ones joining the legs through the bow tie are 2.75" long. Between those and the epoxy (I chose epoxy due to the ipe), nothing moves. If I do add stretchers they would be mahogany (thats what I have), shaped to fit the inner radius then one side to side.

Wow that is cool I would add the stretchers as well, as much for aesthetics as for strength.

Re: Found this while cleaning the shop
And I can get a little excited about finding a couple of 2x4s and a scrap piece of drywall in my garage. If I found something like that I would be off the chart excited.
Tom that is some really nice looking stuff. Care to share some info on who came up with the design, time it took to make, etc.

Re: Found this while cleaning the shop
beez,
I imagine the design takes inspiration from other things I have seen. Are there really any new or original ideas? I knew what material I had, so I sat down and took a minute to draw the stool. The one change I made in the build was the vertical side of the bow tie, the arc matches the other arcs. The change was made because I wanted to do this all off the one fixture.
Working time on the stool with the finish is just under 12 hours. Fixture took about an hour, it was also made out of material I had laying around, the back plate is a piece of 1/2" MDF, the "stops" are pieces of 3/4" oak floor. Between dry time for the glue and finish it stretched out over the course of a week.

Very nice work Tom. But the big question is, is it comfy?
