I will agree with Keith in that it appears there is a disinterest in even considering with an open mind the concept of vacuum clamping. It can be as simple or as difficult as you want to make it.

I had a cheap vacuum pump that I bought to try out vacuum veneer pressing. I found myself without a helper and needed to install 16' long crown. I bought a plastic block already tapped with a fitting and a hole in it. I stuck some foam tape on the block, turned on the pump and after marking the approximate position on the wall stuck the darn block there. It held up my crown. It would also hold me up and the end of my tape measure. I later added a foot switch to control the airflow in the tubing (bought from Lowes) and then I would catch the block when vacuum was released. If I need a ledger to rest an upper cabinet on I might use a longer block. All the stuff fits into nothing bigger than a shopping bag, uses little electricity and is quiet. If like Keith you want to go bigger or better then you can via added blocks, ball check valves etc.

I already had a pump and my total expenditure on the rest of the stuff was less than two weeks of Starbuck's coffee.

I can see the benifits of using a vacuum clamp system in a shop environment, but fo ME, it makes no sence to have one more piece of equipment along with hoses hanging in a furnished room, that's already too cramped to work in. KISS

    Keith +3!

Keith introduced me first hand to vacuum clamps. Smart stuff! The cool part is the versatility. Theres far more uses than just holding crown.
