Round aluminum house anyone?
Had a close (but short) look at the Dymaxion house today. Apparently the only one in existence:

Wiki is not complete but fairly accurate. Very interesting Jetson-like features. Closet opens like a Lazy Susan. Small opening in the wall is the "dresser". Basically a hidden vertical conveyor. You push a button and it moves up one space exposing another compartment. And other similar features. Very amusing.
Apparently was to be built in pieces in a factory. Intended to be built by Beechcraft and it shows. Structure built very much like an aluminum airplane. On site you pour a very small foundation and plant a mast into it. Then you truck the components to the site and mount them to the mast. The finished floors appear structural. Basically radial aluminum U channels, tapered like pie slices with flush hardwood inserts. No evidence of any insulation or heating system. Space immediately around the mast was a chase for utilities and also served as a chimney for the passive ventilation system.
No sure if and where this concept could have worked, but certainly a lot of outside the box thinking here.
