A class on how to use moulding planes with Matt Bickford in Seattle
A class in how to use moulding planes-
In August Matt Bickford is coming to the Port Townsend School of Woodworking to teach a 2 day class in how to make moldings with wood-bodied moulding planes. I wanted to go and invited Gary Katz to attend with me but really didn’t want to spend 2 days in the tiny town of Port Townsend so I contacted Matt to inquire about hiring him to do a 1 day class in Seattle prior the Port Townsend one and he agreed.
So here is what is being offered, a very limited number of openings for a class in my shop. There will be myself, Gary, Josh & perhaps his business partner. That would leave an opening for up to 2 more people.
The cost would be around $100 or so but there is a catch- this would condensed from 2 days to 1 and would be geared toward people who already have a basic familiarity with using a rabbet plane and are able to plane to a line.
If you do not currently have the skill there is enough time to learn it. Also you would not need to own any molding planes, between Matt and myself there will be plenty. In the past moulding planes had to be purchased in sets, Matt now offers them for sale one at a time or in pairs so if you find you have an interest you can buy them much like you currently buy router bits.
If anyone is interested please contact me. Even if it is just Gary and me it will go forward, hell even if it is just me it will go forward :)The progressive Luddite does not have to reject the new to embrace the old.

Kent,
What day will the class be on? I would love to do this if I'm available.

The moulding class is now full and consists of:
Lav, josh, Clint, Gary, Dan and me.
The class with be Monday August 5th. It is recommended that you buy Matt's book and become familiar with his approach. If you feel you would like additional practice using rabbet planes prior to the class we can meet Sunday at the shop and practice technique. The progressive Luddite does not have to reject the new to embrace the old.

You guys on the Coast have some great resources.
Be sure to post a Video or Photos on the Forum.....or a link so we can learn a little something too.
