Mudding and Taping a Doorway Opening
Hello Forum Members,
I recently closed up a door opening in our kitchen with sheetrock. I taped and mudded both sides and continued to feather out each vertical butt joint.
Here is my issue. The inner side of each feathered butt joint were feathered so they met in the middle of the door opening. When I lay I 16in. knife in the center of the door opening i can see a slight gap in the middle of the knife (when layed against the wall) showing the tapering of both edges toward the center of the wall.
I hope I am explaining this well enough where you are still following me. My question is: once painted will you be able to see this slight dip or is this how it should look.
If not, any recommendations on what I should do? I thought about taking one very thin pass with mud down the area where there is a slight valley, however I thought that would make both tapered edges buldge out.
Your knowledge and thought is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

Hire a professional drywaller - he'll know what to do.

Hello Tom,
This site is for trade professionals offering peer to peer support. I suggest future questions to http://www.diychatroom.com/
However on this occasion put a light skim on again as you mentioned, high side of the knife over the original seam.
You won't know the final result until you put a primer on the area. That's the test your looking for generally. Don't use PVA primer but a high hiding latex primer. You can add / skim out further over primer rather than a finish coat of paint if needed.

Mudding and Taping a Doorway Opening
My initial thought was that they simply overlooked it due to the tiny amount of area between the door opening and wall .
