Re: Curved walnut handrails
Stan,
Please don't feel the need to defend your methods or your business.
Any discussion of different methods or techniques is just a sharing of ideas and interests. I think the notion that any method is better than another is left up to the individual.
The only thing I fear , Is fear itself. The fear to try methods I don't understand..... after my 30 years in the stair business, I find I know nothing about stairs and even less about handrails, and I hope to learn something new everyday, just trying to make up for the years I thought I knew everything.....

Re: Curved walnut handrails
I dont know exactly what you mean ..."are the housings on a curved sstringer flat bottomed or round?" The mortises are square cut into the curved stringer. I use template that is kerfed to lay flat againgst the curved stringer while I route the mortises. Thats probably want you were wanting to know?

Stan,
Would you mind posting a pic of your jig or some pics or description of your routing process? I've got a mental block and I'm not seeing it, and I'd love to learn how it's done.
Thanks for sharing. I've really enjoyed looking at your amazing work.
