Cab Storage
Has anyone removed the back seat of their extended cab and built a good storage area for tools?
I've been thinking of a multi tiers platform that I can have a draw for somethings, a level for fasteners and then an open shelve for tool cases. Im looking for ideas.Tom

Re: Cab Storage
Just make sure however you design it, that the items stored do not become unrestrained projectiles in the event of a traffic oops.

Of course! Im not stupid..TOM
I know a few guys who take the whole thing out. I dont, I have a super duty with split rear seats so I was think at least half would be very useful real estate.Tom

Re: Cab Storage
I know it was in jest. :)
Im converting my once nice ride into a work truck..its still nice but not so new and as much as it pains me, I cant replace the beater in this roller coaster economy.
I really need the tool storage of a van or a box but hate the ride them and like the cargo space of a truck.Tom

Re: Cab Storage
I have a nice older just under 300k work truck. My Excursion has been my work truck since day one. I'm so annal about taking care of it, I couldn't go to the job this morning until I washed it (it had been 2 days Since its last bath and some snow melt). It was 15°F overnight here and my truck won't easily fit in the garage, so the driveway it was. The neighbors are used to it so no more crazy looks as they go buy.
I use to have a box truck, I much prefer my Ex. Pulls a trailer great for when I need to bring a shop.

Re: Cab Storage
I keep mine shiney too, I wash it once every 2 weeks or so.
I bet your combo is nice. Its too densely populated around here to be dragging around a trailer all the time or I would enjoy that option.
Did you fit out the Excursion or is it just loose storage?Tom

Re: Cab Storage
Good point Tom,I hit a car head on in a pickup truck in 1975. All of the tools in the camper shell flew though the rear window. Rescue and fire dept. cut me out of truck that was folded up like an accordion. I had tools wedge around me and all over the street where they went through the windshield. I've had two sets of System Ones and both have the cab guard. Just think if you rolled a truck loaded with tools….ouch.

Re: Cab Storage
Nasty, there had to be 3 guys that were hit by the truck itself.
