JLC Vinyl siding issue?
I have been looking back in the archives and cant seem to find an issue on vinyl siding. Im also very interested in metal trim work which goes right along those lines as well. Anyone know an issue that features these subjects? Thanks.

Re: JLC Vinyl siding issue?
There have been random flashing/metal work articles
I have done many, many quality vinyl jobs and they can look very good and do need to proper details since water bleeds through the wall. I have seen way to many sloppy jobs from others that give it a bad rap.
I think most frown on vinyl here. The nature of "loose fit" carpentry with self aligning panels that don't need paint doesn't make for an intriguing article.Tom

I understand that completely. Im just a fan myself of vinyl because it will last basically twice as long as anything else on the market at half the price. I have done vinyl siding jobs 20 years ago that look brand new today.

Re: JLC Vinyl siding issue?
top notch, I worked with a guy on a siding job last summer and he talked about how much he hated the stuff. Thoght it would make him into a sloppy customer since it was the loose fit construction metods you talk about. Funny thing is I dont consider him much of a carpenter to begin with so if it made him worse it would be a bad thing.
I know there have been some threads here about products and methods so if you have not done it yet use the search thread and see what you can find.

Its all about the jay channels and corner posts. They can make a siding job look real cheesey.

Re: JLC Vinyl siding issue?
Something about vinyl siding being deemed "The most environmentally unfriendly product ever" stuck in my mind.
Large amounts of resources and energy to make and can't be recycled unless you live close to a plant.
