There are guys in nearly every city making cutting boards and bowls for tourists. Most of the time its a retired guy with a home shop that needs something to do so the price isn't a fair reflection of the labor.

I'm not saying that you cant make some money but I would sale to local stores and continue to use off-cuts to limit expense. Work on that stuff when your slow and build an inventory so you don't have to stop work to satisfy an order. I would also be careful how you market the products....sometimes taxes and legalities are different for retail.
That is pretty much how I plan on doing this. Build inventory, then as time allows.

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to look into the tax issues.

How do you like that CMS stand? I'm loving mine, though I didn't use it for Christmas presents this year. I'm on a bowl kick.

Gary - Those are some great looking bowls. What wood/finish did you use?

Tom - Very nice work. I made cutting boards for Christmas, too. A total of ten using White Oak butcher block drops with Black Walnut dowel inlays. I cut twelve to fifteen inch diameter circles on my bandsaw and routed half-round finger grooves on the edges. I opted for General Finishes Salad Bowl finish rather than mineral oil. Not as good for heavy cutting but will look great for much longer with no maintenance since everyone says they're too pretty to cut on. Of course, I forgot to take pictures and neglected to make one for myself.

I got a text from the person who received the brick board. They are hanging it on a wall. My response was "I made them to be used". So that is 4 of them not being used.

I'll try the GF Salad Bowl Finish on some others.

I put a Dutchman into a board I had a brain fart on. That's the one I am now using.

You do know, with out pictures, it did not happen;-)
