Looking for molding ideas
Hey guys new here and I am looking for some ideas with a job I have. I have attached a photo of how it looks now and I am looking for molding ideas on this drywall'd bumpout (or whatever proper name there is for it). I was originally thinking veneering some 1/2 mdf and putting shadow boxes over that, but I'm sure there are other ideas out there that people here have used. Hoping to find someone who has done a similar project. Thanks
And sorry that the photo is upside down, I don't know how to fix the site from automatically inverting it.

Andy,
You could simply trim the opening with rabbeted panel molding and it would look pretty cool, or regular flat panel molding on the inside. Unless you're trying to cover it up flush.

Re: Looking for molding ideas
This is a really odd detail for an entry(?). I'm not convinced any form of molding alone will solve the problem. The main issue is that its highlighting the area above the entry and for no real reason. You could add some molding to help but it either needs some kind of picture and/or special lighting to justify the moldings going all the way to the ceiling.
A better Idea is to remove everything including the casing around the door and do a more traditional set of moldings to highlight the entry rather than the space above the entry.
Without 'reason' nothing will look appropriate. In summary give reason by creating a focal point to the space or eliminate the current focal point and highlight the entry.Last edited by JAlvis; 01-04-2013 at 11:58 AM.

Re: Looking for molding ideas
Do you have a pulled back photo that shows the context a bit more? I agree that you have to be careful not to make it look "top heavy"
