O.V.E. framing, sort of, for an otherwise not so energy efficient house
I asked for critique of my single-ply header with notched cripples, in the rough framing section here. Here is a more wide-angle view of the full two-story scheme.
I did the ResCheck for the house and it passes per the IRC 2012 Energy Conservation Code requirements, even with its high ceilings and tall openings. Passed nicely, even.
Critique, please?
This is for a house with 10/0 ceilings throughout, and all exterior window and door openings at 8/0 above floor.
Not every detail of O.V.E. framing is used here. Extra lumber is placed so as to provide nailing for trim.
Not sure of the header-in-rim detail. The rimboard, 14" non-structural LSL, is doubled with header material where needed. I am wondering why the doubling. Why not just cut out the rimboard there and butt-join the slightly thicker structural single-ply header? The sheathing is going to tie everything together, right?
