    Default 1/2 or 5/8

This has probably been beat to death. I have a contractor wanting to install 1/2" on ceilings and walls. Walls no problem. Question is 1/2" ok on ceilings that are framed 24" O.C. steel drywall grid? Anyone?

Use 1/2" ceiling board. Unless of course you need it fire rated, then you need 5/8"

Check with the AHJ, what we say doesn't matter.

The new lightweight drywall is also rated for 24" OC ceiling applications. Again though...not fire rated.

    Are you the drywall sub?

If not, and it's not for fire rating, let the drywall sub determine what's appropriate....and guarantee it of course.
