I Passed
I passed the proctored section of the Florida Construction Exam for Building Contractor today. 76 on Contract Administration and 82 on Project Management. A 70 is a passing grade and only 30% of the test takers pass. With the schooling, books, fees, hotel, meals and gas I'm about 2 large in. The used books are for sale, $350.00, same as I paid used.
I would remind my Florida bretheren that if you so much as fart in Florida and it smells like construction, you need a license. If you do work requiring licensing and you don't have one, your contract is unenforceable, no matter the quality of the work.

Re: I Passed
I designed a sunroom for my father in law who bought a house in Florida. What a disaster. They must give out free crack in Town Hall. After sheets of engineering calculations (the existing house will be long gone before the sunroom curtains move) the building inspector asked for geotechnical information. I told him the soils were "existing". How's that for a classification.
Good luck in Florida.Wanted: Twinkies, Ho Ho's and Ding Dongs.

Ted:
I went to lunch with an electrical inspector attempting to get an Electrical Contractor's license. Go figure.

Re: I Passed
Congrats to you Kowboy. Are you set up to do hurricane restoration work or are you still going to focus on countertop repairs?

Jim:
It's been interesting. My wife, a journeyman electrician and a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and I have been kicking around the idea of starting a Women's Business Enterprise (WBE). I've got a friend back in Ohio who wants to subcontract a large commercial fixture job to us if she does.
We remodeled a waterfront condo kitchen with the help of a licensed friend down here and she designed a kitchen for a potential client today while I installed closets for the same customer (under 1K, no permit needed). I take my final exam on Friday, so I may be licensed by the time we get this one, if we do.
I've got a countertop to refinish on the 30th and cut new weep holes for a sliding door that was backing up water and wrecking a floor last week.

Re: I Passed
I scored an 83.3 on the Business and Finance section of the Florida Building Contractor's exam today. I was given 6 1/2 hours and did it in 5 1/2. Whew.
