Tools wanted, to replace what I lost in the fire
One of the tools I used almost daily, and is no longer made, is a Fletcher No. 5 glazing point gun. You can see it here, on page 2:
http://www.fletcherviscom.com/litera...intDrivers.pdf
I had three of them lost in the fire. They have become increasingly difficult to find in recent years. The last one I bought about a year ago and paid $35 for on ebay. It was brand new, probably never used. I would pay a good deal more than that to anyone that could find me one now.
There are various knock-offs as well. Anything that works would be fine, but some only shoot diamond points. I like the triangle points as they hold better. The Fletcher No. 5 shoots both.
I also lost 14 Bessey staircase clamps which are no longer made. You can see them here:
http://www.besseytools.com/pdfs/sale...rcaseclamp.pdf
I don't need them all the time, but they are invaluable when I do. I don't know of any other similar clamp made.
I'm also looking for used Porter-Cable 690 fixed-base routers. About 8 of them. Single or variable speed. Target price is 50% of new price. These are the basic, no frills machines:
http://www.amazon.com/Porter-Cable-6...r+cable+router
And used Bosch Colt routers, about 3 of them. Fixed or variable speed. Again target is 50% of new price.Last edited by hdrider_chgo; 10-14-2012 at 08:00 AM.

Re: Tools wanted, to replace what I lost in the fire
Dan,
Harbor Freight has those tools in their welding area.
I have 1 Colt you can have and a Porta Cable fixed base, not sure of the number right now. I'll check tomorrow.
I have a 6" Delta jointer and a W&H molder. They were given to me, I don't use them. They're yours if you want them. I'd like to see the above go to a good home where they will be put back to work.
I have a couple of 10.8 volt Bosch drills that are yours if you want them also.
If you need a table saw and planer to get you through for now, I have one of each you can use. The W&H has planer blades and the manual with it also.
Let me know.
Here's the link to the 12" clamps, they also show a 16";

Re: Tools wanted, to replace what I lost in the fire
Thanks, Tom, I appreciate it.
The staircase clamps have both a handle on them and a nut, so they can be either tightened by hand or spun down with an impact wrench.
Assuming I finalize the lease on the new shop this week, I want to talk to you about a potential project for you, so let's talk by phone in the next few days.Last edited by hdrider_chgo; 10-13-2012 at 10:12 PM.

I did not realize that about the clamps. Push comes to shove, we can weld nuts on the end of the Acme screws.
I'm working on my moms all week. Plenty of time to talk at your conviniance.

Re: Tools wanted, to replace what I lost in the fire
Dan,
I'll send an email to get your address but I wanted to comment publicly about giving you this tool. You're a valued member of the JLC forums community and a brother contractor. We work in a business where despite our best efforts, a few bad apples continuously tarnish the reputation of our chosen profession. That makes it all the more important for the good guys to stand together and support each other.
I realize that you have insurance coverage but the reality is that it never goes far enough. This is not charity for the poor. This is lending a hand to another tradesman in a time of need. I'm sure if the tables were turned you would do the same for any one of us. Pay it forward and we're square.
If it makes you feel any better, I don't have anything tied up in this tool as it came along with a bunch of other stuff when I bought out a cabinet shop a long ways back. I kept what I wanted and sold off enough of it to be in the black. I never use this router anymore as I drank the KoolAid and have all three Festool models.Joe Adams

Thanks, Kent, that would be very generous. I don't have too many needs right now, other than what's posted above. I will keep everyone informed as things shake out.

Re: Tools wanted, to replace what I lost in the fire
Anyone local, I am looking for 1-3/4 commercial solid core flush doors, preferably 7' or taller, to use for tables and benches. Anyone on a site within 10 miles of downtown Chicago, where they are throwing them out, I will come pick them up.

The staircase clamps seem to still be available at a Tool Zone. I don't know about quantities.

Re: Tools wanted, to replace what I lost in the fire
In the past year, I've tried to buy more staircase clamps from several companies that advertise them. After I place the order, they typically get back to me a few days later, and claim they've been discontinued and refund my money.
Someone, somewhere may still have them in stock."If you only have a hammer, all problems look like nails"

Re: Tools wanted, to replace what I lost in the fire
I was at my local tool store and saw some clamps that look similar to what you are looking for. They were made by Strong Hand Tool. The clamps had the regular sliding lever thing you find on c-clamp to tighten by hand, but the end of it was hex shaped to fit a socket.
