Foundation vents

I need help with a clarification regarding crawl space vent locations. The house I am about to build is a 1600 square foot ranch in Atlantic county New Jersey. The IRC code states " one such ventiliting opening shall be within 3 feet of each corner of the building. The Subcode offical is interpeting at every corner (inside and outside corners), on this design there is (7) outside and (4) inside corners (not a standard box) . This seems overly designed, is the interpetation of the code to mean at the (4) outermost corners?

you need a copy of the code so you can read it, then apply it. Your simple explanation has left out additional info that's in my IRC and that is....."minimum net venting area shall not be less than 1 sq. ft for every 150 sq. ft. of under-floor space area".

No the code does not mean 4 corners, no where does it say that. Either apply the space calcs or follow your adopted code for your state!

A better idea would be to do an unvented crawlspace- Most vented crawlspaces that I've seen lead to problems. If you do go vented make sure you have a well defined air and thermal boundry strategy at the underside of the floor.
