Cut truss for attic access
Hi guys
I have a customer who is trying to sell his house. The inspection noted that the 1st truss by the gable end had been cut to facilitate access for an HVAC system installation.
Can this be adapted to satisfy the inspection while keeping the access way or should the cut original truss be repaired?
Thanks
Dan

Re: Cut truss for attic access
I would check with your local truss company and their engineer for ideas...
It is a simple matter of being patient. I do patience very well, except for the waiting part. That's the one aspect of patience that still bites me.

Re: Cut truss for attic access
I have been through this scenario a couple of times here in CA.
The GC's boys cut the bottom chords of the trusses.
In both cases the trusses had to be repaired.

Same here, it would have to be repaired and the repair signed off by an engineer.
The engineer would be free to devise a repair/modification that provides the access, while restoring the required structural capability of the truss.
