I'm suddenly bullish on America!
The Paul Ryan choice is brilliant because no matter who was the VP selection, they were going to have to defend the Ryan plan anyway and I doubt there is anyone else close to being as capable as Ryan.
Assuming (it's my opinion that it's a given), that the "comeback team" wins the election, does it change anyone's financial outlook or plans for the remainder of this building season, or the next? It doesn't change anything I'm planning because I'm just following the storms at this point but if I was a spec builder, it might have some significant impact.
What signals are being sent to the financial industries? Will austerity measures that are surely needed mean less credit or will "sensible" financial ideas open up credit?
Will the money sitting on the sidelines come out of the closet? If it does, will it help spur the robust recovery that all of us want?
I'm bullish because it's my belief that 8 years of sound conservative financial decisions by Romney, followed by 8 more years of sound conservative financial policy by Ryan will go a long way toward restoring American credibility in the marketplace.
Paul Ryan: good choice or bad? The Dems claim they are happy because they want to continue the medicare scare tactic. I can see their point. Will Ryan be given enough podium to explain what the real problems, and solutions are?

Re: I'm suddenly bullish on America!
Not sure the Republicans should want to win this one, Nouriel Roubini is predicting the perfect storm to hit in 2013 collapsing the social welfare states in Europe and the Americas, he says this is going to be worse than the last one (which he accurately predicted). The fact is that the Federal Reserve is out of bullets, there is not much they can do anymore. Maybe the Republicans should sit this one out, let the economy collapse and let the Democrats take the blame, I subscribe to his newsletter and take his predictions seriously.

Re: I'm suddenly bullish on America!
Dick, one of the reasons that I've been Bearish on America is exactly because that perfect storm is approaching. I'd much rather have a team that is willing to face the real issues and speak the truth and deal with them, at the expense of their political re-election capital, than a lame duck crew that has shown little appetite for tough leadership action.
From a movie, the name escapes me "..These are serious times and it requires serious actions..."
Forgive me if I've butchered that quote.

One guy (who is a statist-he voted to make THE PATRIOT ACT permanent) is NOT going to fix the problem with the people in this country.
You will need to deprogram whole masses of people from the ENTITLEMENT mental illness that they suffer from. I'm talking about the woman who doesn't marry the fathers of her children because she "gets" more money from the gov't, to the gov't employee who thinks it is "fair" to only work 10 years and then let others support him for the other 70 years of his life, all the way to the lady who thinks she is entitled to fly to Europe on a private 737 and rent out a whole hotel to buy a pair of shoes because she thinks she is "entitled" to having others pay her way because her husband is a gov't employee.
But before you can start the re-education of the country, you will need to dismantle the gov't indoctrination centers.
Do you think the PTB will allow that?Last edited by parkwest; 08-11-2012 at 12:18 PM.

Park, Every journey begins with one step.
Given the choices, which Veep would be closer to accomplishing your goals? Also, to keep the answer relevant, include only a choice that would not scuttle Romney's chances. For instance, if Romney chose Ron Paul as the Veep, I would guess that Obama's re-election would have been secured based on conventional wisdom. Obviously, that's only a theory...my crystal... ball fell into the recycle bin....
I'm just trying to get some grass roots feel about the Veep pick and how it's going to affect the future. Should I be buying stock, or selling?

I like the choice. This country is in a very bad way and needs people who are welling to think outside the box. What's funny is much of Ryan's reforms where supported by Bill Clinton. Now all of the sudden they are radical. The Dems have to run by scaring people because their policies are a joke.

Show covers Libertarian VP Candidate Judge Jim Gray talking about real issues that actually matter and Dinesh D'Souza's film '2016' looking into the not-so public secrets of President Barack Obama. Re: I'm suddenly bullish on America!
Kent, would you agree the discussions have been pretty civil? If they stay civil and don't last 4 years like the global warming one, there are some good discussions.
Paul Ryan is a very impressive person. Extremely bright, very articulate, the most knowledgeable on the budget in decades, great personality and very confident. I don't think I've ever seen him unhappy. He constantly has a smile and never lets the attacks affect his happy demeanor.
Besides being great on his intelligence, etc. I think he will connect with your neck of the woods Kent. I think there is a desire to use Ryan to take PA, WI, MI and OH. He is a great candidate for the midwest states.
A good profile that was done a few months ago on Ryan. http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/specia.../1775717505001
Here is his scolding of obama on obamacare in 2010. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPxMZ1WdINs Paul Ryan is among the most hated by obama. Obama absolutely cannot stand him. Eric Cantor is the only one he dislikes more.

Re: I'm suddenly bullish on America!
Buzzy Ginsburg isn't going to make it another 4 years, Stephan Breyer wants to retire too. I would like two more Thomas, Alito or Scalia's to fill those seats. Europe is a mess and their last century of socialism needs decades to fix. But America will be fine with sound economic policies and cutting gov't and spending so we are not Europe.
I'm sure we'll see more classy ad's like this one from the lib's this fall. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7KDKoXWOlk That is an actual ad from a liberal group last year. Can't win the debate, demagog and scare.

Re: I'm suddenly bullish on America!
Well, I am a spec builder, I currently have specs under construction and more planned. National elections have no impact on what I build, the local economy, local job growth, existing inventory, and mortgage rates dictate builder starts. And of course my own balance sheet.
"Signals" will only count after the election, no one knows now who is going to win. What signals are being sent to the financial industries? Will austerity measures that are surely needed mean less credit or will "sensible" financial ideas open up credit?
I do like the choice, I already liked Romney, I think he would make a great President. I don't think I've ever disliked an administration as much as I dislike this one. However, incumbents are hard to beat and it will not be easy victory for Romney-Ryan.

Eagleton may be the only VP candidate to have any impact on an election.
