    Default Mk 660 tile saw

Local rental yard is selling a MK660 Tile saw. It looks as if it has never been used. Price is $225.00 I've been saving for the dewalt saw, but not every tile job needs that much saw.

Is this saw powerful enough for most tile jobs? What are the limits of this thing. I like it because it is small and easy to store and transport.

I rarely self perform tile, this would mostly be for my own homes remodel.

    Thanks,

I have one of those I picked up when they first came out. Still works fine. I sits somewhere between a snap cutter and a beam saw. Not a bad price if it's all there with a useable blade and stand. You need to self perform a home tile future gut check and figure if the time span and material size likely to be used fits within the realm of this saw. It could suck to not be able to do what the grand design called for because you got a saw that won't do it. It's likely biggest limit is cutting larger tiles on diagonal which tops out at 12" iirc.

12" are the biggest in the grand scheme. But they are granite tiles. I've been saving for the dewalt, which seems capable of anything I'd ever need, but way too much for 80% of what I'd ever do.

Just looked it up; it's only 10" diag/14"max length. I've cut granite with mine just fine, but do have other saws I'd choose first to do much work with. All tools have limitations, just need to know if for the price [and needs] you can live with them.

The beauty of that MK is it's silence. Hardly know it's running when you're not cutting tile.

The Dewalt, on the other hand is a screamer.

I had the MK, now have the Dewalt, but $225 for that saw is a screaming deal.

    That's a $500 + saw.

    I have the 101 and the 660.

Unless I'm laying something larger than (and I do very little tile setting, just to let you know) 12 inch tile or stone, I prefer the 660.

Most of that has to do with it being so much lighter than the 101.

It's taken everything that I have thrown at it. Table is exceptionally easy to align.

Seriously good deal on a saw that will do 90% plus of the tile you would ever consider doing. Most of the tile I've set recently is mosaic or subway style. I agree with the comment on the noise level. The older I get the more that annoys me, and besides if the tools are too loud I cant hear The Clash on the powerbox.

very good saw, I got it about 5 years ago and it's still going strong. Quite. light weight and will cut most stuff. For me I would like a bigger saw like the Dewalt but I've only needed one twice in the last two years and one was a beam saw, so I just rent one when I need it. Buy it you wont regret it even if you need to get the bigger saw down the road. It's nice to have a small saw for the up stair bathrooms.
