Houston is Hot
I would say Forbes is bullish on Houston!

The Houston metropolitan area, with a population of 6.1 million, experienced a net migration gain of 313,800 new residents during the past five years. Compare that with the three metros *bigger than Houston: New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. They had a combined loss of 365,700 (see chart).Last edited by Allan Edwards; 07-26-2012 at 09:48 PM.

I loved Houston when I was there....except for the traffic, but then Dallas & Atlanta are just as bad when I lived in those metros.

Re: Houston is Hot
Actually a mild summer so far here, relatively speaking. But there's a lot of summer left.
Regarding the articles about Houston's economy, the energy industry is on fire here, several companies are doing well, expanding, move here. The recent boom in shale gas and other oil and gas discoveries will make us a net exporter as a country. The energy business could lead this country to the next boom period if politicians would get their head out the sand.

Allen, the energy sector could lead us into a boom area if it wasn't for the political leadership. Speaking of shale gas. Where I live in Western Pennsylvania, in my township, they have drilled at least 10 wells in the last year. They spend an average of 5 million per well to develop them. The site work alone is amazing. Most of the excavating is being done by local contractors.
Royal Dutch Shell is going to build a 2 - 3 billion chemical plant(plastics) in the county I live in. By products of the shale gas are required for this type of manufacturing. Many more are talking about building here too.

It seems that gas is being found all over the world in large quantities. If almost everyone has it, who is going to buy it because they have their own. If they don't have it there will be plenty of sellers which should lower the price.

Re: Houston is Hot
It is huge. NY state banned fracking, and they wonder why their economy stinks and people are moving. Natural gas is a huge opportunity for the US and it needs to be developed completely.
Did you see NC just passed a fracking bill? The NC democrat governor vetoed the approval of fracking which was passed by the R's in the legislature. The legislature voted to override the veto. The funny thing is a D who is very against fracking accidentally voted for the override by pushing the wrong button. Her vote, accidentally was the deciding vote. ha ha.

Re: Houston is Hot
Those pesky politico's sure have crippled US oil and gas production! I mean today's report of yet another drop in drill rig count just proves it gosh darn it all. I mean seriouly we all know that last years record production had nothing to do with the falling prices for nat gas and therefore nothing to do with the desire to drill and pump out more. Obama, you didn't drill that.
And in other, if you dig it, they will come, news...
