Why Are the Stiles Longer on Exterior Doors ?
Have another Fir exterior door install coming up. Why are the stiles longer on these doors and have to be trimmed. Just to prevent damage in transit / storage ? I've never known why ?

Re: Why Are the Stiles Longer on Exterior Doors ?
The finish carpentry forum had a good discussion about this.

As I understand it, after the wood acclimates, the rails change dimension across the grain so dramatically, that if the stiles were cut flush to the rail at time of manufacture, they wouldn't be flush after the rails expand or shrink, depending on climate.
