soft close lid?
I am building a bench/toy chest for a customer of mine. It will have a solid wood lid that opens. I am looking for some type soft close device to keep resistance on the top that opens up so it doesnt come slamming down on the little kids finger. Anybody ever use something like that?

Re: soft close lid?
I did that for my grandson's toy chest's, I bought the soft closers at Home Depot for around $6 ea. On one of the chest's I used two because of the weight, on the other I got away with one.

Re: soft close lid?
There are a dozen easily found woodworker sites like this that have them. A top mfg is Lift-O-Mat you can search it too for addl info.

Here's another lid support

either one holds the lid whatever position you open it to. I've used the ones above. Be sure and use the formula to figure out the inch-pounds you need.

Re: soft close lid?
Thanks. I'm going to check those out. I definetly want something that holds the lid in any position.

Re: soft close lid?
I've used this manufacturer a few times on up-swinging doors and they have a soft-close lid offering, too. They work well, but deciphering the instructions the first time is a real hoot. No kidding, I think the weight specs were in "specific gravity" http://www.sugatsune.com/products/pr...D=3&SUBCATID=1
