Printer etc. recommendation
I need to replace combination printer / copier / fax / scanner. Light usage so operating cost not as important as initial cost. I would appreciate your suggestions. Simply put, I would like the best buy for the buck. Thanks

Re: Printer etc. recommendation
I've always had hood luck with the HP all-in-ones. I have a OfficeJet 7310 that has been working great for years.

Re: Printer etc. recommendation
Been using an Epson Workforce 840 for several months and love it. First printer I ever loved, actually. I don't remember paying this much for it, closer to $200 I think.

Re: Printer etc. recommendation
I just replaced my 7 year old HP AIO with a new HP AIO Officejet 6500. I guess you're talking about inkjet. I've had all the other printers - I'm keeping with HP.
I started to look around for a few weeks and ultimately got the above printer for $65 (new). Retail $150 - discounted at the box stores to $110.
Matter of fact - here it is for $75 at the HP Online Store

Check the HP Online store regularly. The deals come and go. I watch DealNews.com > Coupons > HP Store. They had about 10 coupon codes that reduced the cost. I also got 40% off of ink as a result too. However looks like they (Deal News) replaced the Coupon tab with Black Friday.
Still www HP Coupon Codes

Another $25 off the above printer to $65. This is not a cheepie printer......almost to good to be true. There's only 1 or 2 above at HP.
The above is a very good all around printer. You can switch printing to Draft mode and it will stay there - I do most of my internal printing in Draft - comes out good and saves ink and a lot faster printing. Printing in Normal or better - very close to laser quality unlike my previous unit.Last edited by Happy Home; 11-23-2011 at 07:42 PM.

Another vote for the Epson Workforce 840. Been using it about a year now. No problems whatsoever, and the ink seems to last a long time. 4 separate ink cartridges help.
I think I paid under $200."If you only have a hammer, all problems look like nails"

Re: Printer etc. recommendation
another vote for the 840, I've had one at home for about a year and I've gone through about 4 sets of ink carts (I print a LOT) and no issues.
I have this xerox at the office and I have about 9000 pages run through it (it has a counter) with no issues.

everyone I know that uses an HP in a commercial environment has had issues although YMMV.-Dennis

Re: Printer etc. recommendation
Its interesting that this thread just came up as I'm in the process of figuring out which new printer to get myself. Sadly, I do need one. I have had an HP OfficeJet AIO for about 4-5 years. Its been a PITA since I got it. Not because its a bad printer, but because I don't use it much. Whenever I NEED to print I have a problem. The pinch rollers that feed the paper develop flat spots over time and then the paper won't feed correctly causing all manner of swearing on my part. Of course these printers are designed for low volume SOHO type work so I'm not entitled to complain, but I do. The other thing is the ink for the inkjets are ridiculously expensive, but even with that expense my biggest issue with the inkjets is the damn ink dries up before I use even half of it! However, they are still cheaper than getting a full-on commercial office printer. I still have to use the FAX feature a few times a year - like when my liability insurance company wants me to FAX them my annual audit paperwork. Why can't it be email? Who knows?? So I keep paying for a fax line and the fax feature, but it almost never gets used. I do use the scanner and copier features a bit though. I'm thinking of going to one of the laser based AIO units because the ink won't dry up. Maybe that will be less expensive and troublesome to operate.
Are there any other ideas out there???
DonI started out with nothing. I still have most of it left.

Re: Printer etc. recommendation
Ixnay on the fax function and fax line, I have never used that function on my Workforce 840. For people that insist on remaining in the dark ages and using fax, my telecomm service handles both inbound and outbound faxes via email.
Outbound, send an email with the item to be faxed as an attachment, and the service will automatically convert it to a fax, send it, and email you the confirmation.
Inbound, my general office number (I have one number for everything) will detect an incoming fax, receive it, and send it to me as an email attachment. This, of course, allows me to maintain an electronic copy, eliminating paper clutter, and allows me to read it on my iPhone, if I am not in the office.
But whenever someone wants a fax, or wants to send me a fax, I first say "What, you don't have email?" Sometimes that's an option, and they don't tell you for some reason, maybe assuming you are as backwards as they are."If you only have a hammer, all problems look like nails"
