    Default Building in Utah

Looking into doing a project for my brother in Utah, around Park City. Any Utah builders out there who know what's it like to develop/build out there? Any info is appreciated.

I'm used to California: lots of sunshine and regulations.

I lived in Park City for years and built my share of homes there. What kind of info are you looking for? Licensing, weather, frost depth, mormon vs non-mormon rules???

All of that would be useful. I'm also wondering about utilities, permitting, and availability of materials and specialty trades.

According to my brother, the alcohol laws are rather complicated. :)

I used to run a brewery in Utah - saying the alcohol laws are complicated is a huge understatement.... :)

Supposedly they eased them up for the winter Olympics awhile back...

Lets just say that when they tested our taps for alcohol content one of the testers wore a side arm... Crazy.....

I have nothing to add about building in Park City however....

I'm going to have to add a line item for this.

What? Are you building a bar or restaurant in Utah?

Well you are in luck - despite the weird laws Utah has some of the finest micro breweries in the country as far as I am concerned...

ROFLMAO What does that have to do with building in Utah? You sure you didn't mean to post this on the AA website? lol

Did they change the law for micro breweries? The last I heard is you could only get near-beer in Utah?

Me and some friends visited Utah back in college. That sucked. The beer was 3.2% alcohol and you couldn't get into a bar unless you had a "sponsor". We rented a van and drove to Vegas.

Yeah all the beer in breweries is 3:2. That does not make the beer taste any different however.

Ted that sponsor thing was idiotic. Where I lived they just said "Oh Bob sponsored you"... I think that sponsor crap is gone and only applied to just bars where no food was served...

It was/is for private clubs, you had to be a member, and you brought your own booze with you, they charged you for the setup though.

As for bars, you could go into any of them but they only served beer and wine.

Yeah when I lived there a private club / bar served booze and did not have to serve food.

A tavern served beer and wine only and you did not have to order food.

A restaurant could serve beer / wine / booze only if the patron ordered food.

You could not go in the tavern and order a mixed drink. You could not sit in a restaurant and just order a drink. The private club you needed a membership or sponsorship - it was an easy work around where I was...

Our brewery was actually two separate businesses under the same roof with boundaries to comply with the laws. We had to maintain separate books for the two. What a pain it was...
