Sortimo
Lets talk Sortimo
The main focus is there vehicle solutions.
The system looks great. Lots of options and extremely well designed...proof of German success.
Although Availibilty in the USA looks horrible. Whats the deal?
Who has experience with the products?

To be far, they have not been in the US long.
Here is a distributor list from 2011 that might help you. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...FVbWc&hl=en_US

Re: Sortimo
I've been talking with the US dealer this week. Seems like the price tag as well as US regulations are keeping contractors away. Supposedly Germany as well as other countries have safety requirements for work vehicle therefore driving the market.
The mobile cart with "easy-klick" system appears to be a great option for our industry. You can move the carts on and off a trailer or Van therefore the high cost of a fixed unit isn’t sold with a change of vehicle. Plus there’s versatility for onsite to shop work.

Another great option is the "express rack" system. Use it when you need it but have the option to adjust for any needs. The US dealer was explaining that the racks allow addition strapping points.

Re: Sortimo
Rumor has it that Tanos may be introducing their version into the US this coming year. That might of interest to those who use Festools and already transport tools in Systainers.
I would imagine that as more of the Euro style vans make it to market here the offering choices will increase but pricing will be a consideration.

Re: Sortimo
Supposedly from things I've read it’s not US regulations but the lack of regulation. Not requiring bulk heads and secure loads for safety. That’s the major selling point for Sortimo, Safety first and organization second.
Naturally my source could be wrong. Hopefully someone who knows will clarify...perhaps any German or European members could help?

Re: Sortimo
J,
Commercial and combination vehicles already require bulkheads to separate driver cab from cargo area. Securing loads is common sense. I don't think I need the Germans to tell me I need to secure my loads, let alone pay a premium for what amounts to fancy "D" loops and ratcheting tie downs. There have been many instances of European tools having legislated "safety" items which drive up the price considerably, not to mention the additional taxes levied on them as commercial use products.
I think here it will come down to price. If the company is just nowhere in the ballpark, they won't have success FWIW

Thank God that i have more Systainers then L-boxxx

Re: Sortimo
Phil,
"It’s not US regulations but the lack of regulation” This was mentioned as a force in the market that increases demand. Perhaps the US requires bulkheads but it’s far from enforced. If it’s not enforced then it doesn’t play a strong role in the demand curve for a product. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with regulation; just stating some economic factors as it applies to this product.
It’s not really fair to say that sortimo is only selling D loops and ratchets to produce safety. This is clear in the video presentation that follows:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcyM8EpILxo
Notice that ratchets and D loops are not necessary for security.
Even if its "common sense" for loads to be secured doesn’t mean that "sense" is applied. When it comes to employees its common sense for the business owner to look over his/her shoulder. Perhaps it’s the responsibility of the employee but the insurance company doesn’t care. This is how the system works whether I agree or not.

Re: Sortimo
All kinds of videos out there showing the cool European stuff. Have American companies just given up?
Here's a nice one:

It would have been nice to see some of this at the Remodeling show last week, rather than 40 booths of plastic decking..."If you only have a hammer, all problems look like nails"

Re: Sortimo
Neat HD, too bad I don't speak Norwegian or Swedish or Danish. ;-)
I agree, too much plastic decking. What happened to the thermally treated wood products??
J, They do have neat stuff, but guys on here regularly show great innovation in how they set up their individual trucks. Plus, the price of plastic containers is a little outrageous, "engineered" or not. I've looked at sistainers and they are more expensive than the tools I would put in them. Not saying they don't function, just too rich for me.
