    Default Gutster/demo bars

I was going to get a Gutster for an upcoming deck demo/reskin. But on their site, 2 lengths are "Sold out" and one is "while supplies last" and without warranty!!!

Something tells me those guys never could get them to stop breaking so they quit making them.

They do have a similar bar called "The Demo Bar". Anyone use that one? Is it as good as the Gutster? Does it hold up? What else do you guys use?

Oops - beat by LUB. Hey neighbor, my kid's football team plays Poudre HS tomorrow night in Fort Fun. We're meeting for some pre-game at the Rio Grande in Old Town.

    Sorry for the drift, DG!

I have an original bar with the round handle and it has served me well. I do recall reading that the one wit the oval bar had issues. Not easy to weld a casting well, from what I understand this was the weak point. Welding mild steel to a cast piece would be worse.

I just looked at their web site, it appears as if they are going to a socket attachment for the handle. That should correct the weld point issue.

I did see the Grizzly bar today at the tool store. It seemed to have a very shallow angle of the curve, so it would require too much side room. In other words, it would be more "horizontal" in actual use than I like. Am I wrong?

Deck Wrecker, best bar I ever used for removing deck boards. Best part is that it is tall so you can work standing up the entire time. Deck Wrecker

    Dg,

With the shape of the shoe, and the shoe being placed under the plank the handle is just over waist high on me. I am 6'1. It appears that the new model will have a more vertical handle.

They do point out in their lititure is it should not be used on screwed down planks.

Off topic, you going to make the remodeling show in Chicago?

Wow, I like that Deck Wrecker. Imona git me one.

TJ, thanks for the info but no need to brag about your height. Some of us folks of average height can be rather sensitive...:)

Show, maybe. If I can talk wifey into visiting her close friends in Evanston. I get bored driving alone and I particularly dislike driving in Chicago. When I drive to Oshkosh I time it so I cross Chicago at 3AM :)

Edit: Tom, I was saying the Grizzly appears too shallow in the shoe. I think you're talking about the original Gutster.

No bragging, just a point of reference.

Think about flying in, you can catch SWA #2140 from DTW for $38.00 on the 12th and return on 2552 for $38.00 on the 16th. I'll pick you up or you can take the Cta Orange line to downtown.

If you drive in you will pass north my house by about 10 miles. You can stop here and ride in with me (us).

I have the original Gutster from way back when and it's still going strong. I can't believe it.

I have a Deck Wrecker too, that is really good for production board pulling, but not useful for much else. Having both types on site is a good way to go.

Sal tried making a heavy duty Gutster out of mild steel and it works, but it's really heavy and bends. My Deck Wrecker is bent to hell, but still works.

The demo bar i made works well it is heavy(about the weight of a digging bar), but i am not wimpy like Greg(j/k) so its not an issue ;-)

i have had it almost 2 years now with occational heavy use and haven't had any issues. the tips of the flat blade did bend a bit, but its 1/4 plate steel and i figured it would a bit. its still extremely usable.

i would build another in a heartbeat.

I just bought a Deck Wrecker for a demo next week. I hope it works as good as you say.
