  • Sketchup on iPhone/iPad FINALLY!!

Yes! finally we can view our SU models on an iphone, or ipad using a new viewer app that came out!

Its still not a tablet version of SU but for view models in 3D its awesome. The Augmented reality feature is what makes this app! I already have dropped a mantel design in a clients room for viewing on my iphone. Its really cool. Check it out and watch the video it will blow your mind!

I bet Google will come out with an even better mobile version of SU at least a viewer. But this works really well. Worth the 15 bucks for cool factor and to show off with clients.

    Jesse,

Check out 3DIVA in the app store also.

    In reply number 78 of this F.O.G. thread there is a video link of it being used;

This looks good too! However not a fan of the service fee...and that its a web based hosting.
I'm happy with this sight space app so far. I have just been using it on my iphone. Pretty cool just emailing or drop boxing your model and opening it up.

I was just trying to do this the other day! I tried out Cubits and can't get it to work, and paid $4.00 for it!! I'm sure there something I'm doing wrong. But the real point is...WHAT'S the deal! Why doesn't Apple recognize SU files on my iPad!! I though they were cutting edge! It's not like Sketchup is some enemy competitor or something. I mean, I can see why using SU on my iPad would be kind of ridiculous, but a viewer...come on, what's so difficult about that?

              Gary,

The easiest way to get a photo into a thread from the iPad is Photobucket. Up load your photos, then copy and paste the link to the URL, this site does not support direct insert, so a link is currently your best option. The link above is to a random photo I have uploaded.

              Jesse,

You will never see flash on an IOS device. What you will see is web sites using software to convert flash to HTML5 so you can view the content. Adobe has already made it available.

                Re: Sketchup on iPhone/iPad FINALLY!!

Yeah, it's Flash that's going to go the way of the dinosaur. It doesn't run properly on Android, the wait times are ridiculous. I un-installed it on my phone, just don't bother with websites that require it.

Apparently it sucks just as badly on blackberry's playbook. And Windows 8 is going to follow Apple's lead, not support Flash at all.

Fact is - Flash is a battery killer, and riddled with security holes. Good riddance.

It's entirely reasonable, perhaps even superior, to do modeling work on a touch device instead of using a silly mouse.

What if it's just a regular mouse?

While your experience may be different,I don't agree. For me a mouse with a wheel is (way) easier to use than trying to navigate in a virtual 3D world through a 2D interface such as an iPad. I have tried to use a touch device to navigate my Sketchup models using Sightspace's app while customers look over my shoulder and it just isn't fun for the client or me.
I agree that HTML5 is better than Flash, but HTML5 does seem to make older 3+ processors work harder. My iPad processes HTML5 pages much more efficiently than my 5 year old laptop.
