Re: Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO
I was wondering the same thing about his health. I'm also wondering if this is the beginning of a downward slide in innovate products and not to mention stellar stock performance.

Allan, you changed your location to Washington Texas. Did your ranch move? :)

Re: Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO
It's because of his health.
Apple will drop precipitously tomorrow.
And then go back up.
Expect this to be the point at which Apple is said to begin losing its dominance, but it will take a while.http://www.lavrans.com

It has always been in Washington, but I originally put Chappell Hill which is nearby. Washington-on-the-Brazos was the capital of the Republic of Texas, an independent nation 1836-1848. "Birth Place of Texas".

Re: Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO
Might as well leave on top. Largest market cap give or take, great products and stellar stock performance. I bought some shares in 2000 after the tech crash for about 14 dollars a share. I sold 1/2 at a loss later to offset gains in other stocks. I sold the rest on the news of the iPod which was about 30- 40 dollars or so a share at the time. Would have been nice to had a crystal ball.

Re: Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO
He is still Chairman of the Board. I do not think he would have made this announcement without being absolutely certain that the proper successors were in place.
He approved designs created by others, the software codes area written by others. He is still CoB, so his guidance and input will still be present.
Stocks will react, the products in the pipeline will counter act the markets reaction.

Re: Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO
I agree and as I said I am going long on Apple. I think the Steve Jobs business DNA is part of the cultural core at Apple and should last long after he one day finds he needs to leave the Board there too (a lot of analysts are saying the same thing too).
In reading the news regarding Jobs' resignation as CEO this evening I caught one story that cited this quote from Michael Dell, CEO of his eponymous named company when ask about what to do with Apple back in 1997:
"What would I do? I'd shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders,"

I wouldn't want to be caught discounting the vital importance of Tim Cook's detail-oriented management and engineering expertise.

Re: Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO
Of course it's his health - Have you looked at him lately -yikes. He's already beaten the odds for pancreatic cancer by a mile - Survival for metastatic pancreatic cancer (of the aggressive type and stage Steve Jobs reportedly has/had) is normally measured in months, not years, and the treatment is almost as bad as the disease - I've lost several friends to pancreatic cancer - it's as bad as it gets - the ultimate way you do not want to go and something you literally would not wish on your worst enemy.
His ability to access absolutely the best care money can buy is what has given him this much time. It's a real shame - of all the people to get taken out that way - it sucks.
There's really no telling what will happen at Apple -and as far as I'm concerned none of the talking heads know squat - they're just filling blab time with speculation. Hopefully he's made good succession plans and has put the right people in the right places. But only time will tell.

Re: Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO
The big question at Apple is if what happened when he was replaced way back when happens again. The main reason Apple is where it is today is because they think of what their customers want. Every other computer company is thinking about what their engineers want, and right now that's pretty much to be what Apple is... Hence the low competition (well, if you call innovation competition: everyone is doing a good job at showing they can copy the innovators, but there aren't many really innovating, from a non-technical POV).
Last time he wasn't running the ship it became another half-assed engineer run tech company.http://www.lavrans.com
