CAPs Designation Revived in Maine
It took a year from the start of an old thread to get some of the NAHB CAPs(Certified Aging in Place) classes scheduled in Maine. Dan started this by asking me to teach when I vacation in Maine in summer, so I'll be doing two of the CAPs Courses!

The HomeBuilders and Remodelers Association of Maine has partnered with the National Kitchen and Bath Association of Maine to present two of the classes on June 17th and June 21st.
June 17th is Design/Build for Aging and Accessibility(CAPs II)
June 21st is Business Management for Building Professionals.
These will be held in the Portland area, but if interested you need to call
HBRA of Maine at 207-622-7792 Sandy HomeBuilders Association
NKBA of Maine at 207-669-8025 Connie Kitchen and Bath Association
There is an added bonus to this joint effort in that I will be having everyone exchanging business cards so the KB people now have contractors who are familiar with the CAPs requirements, and the contractors can send referrals to the KB people who may need their sort of expertise. Both sides win!!
The time frame for sign-up for these classes is short due to the time required to get the class materials so again, if interested, don't delay calling!!Take Care

Re: CAPs Designation Revived in Maine
I'm bumping this so everyone has the weekend to decide to attend. Keeping in mind that the first class is the 17th, they need in general a week to release and receive the student guides. I know they are going to order a couple extra but there is no way to order a plethora of guides and receive them in time other than overnite UPS, and that costs a bunch(and guess who pays for it?).
The growth of the Certified Aging in Place Program really comes to light when you stop to think about how many Agers are staying in their homes. Just think about how many of your own relatives are aging on....still at home! Insurance and care costs are way out there for the elderly and disabled!
The CAPS program is an opportunity to add another direction for your business. It may be only an add-on to a job, or a full blown accessibility fitout. Either way, you're either prepared to do it, or watching while others take that extra piece of cake!
