I dunno. It looks pretty good.
Sure I've made my own jigs but they sure don't do everything that jig does. Of course no jig does everything. I've seen a lot dumber things out there.

So she's demoing on a rigid with no wings, how does it work if you want wings? Awfully expensive for bent plastic and wing nuts, never mind those wing nuts would hurt on cold damp days...

You have to admit she's easier on the eyes than a certain bandana wearing, decorative paneling king who shall remain nameless to protect the innocent. (Of course, Kreg is more entertaining.)

but she's wear flannel, she must know what she is talking about. i may sound like a jerk, but using a girl to sell your product means to me that it is probably no that great a product and needs some help along. Im also critical of women doing sportscasting for mens sports though.. they are definitely easier on the eyes, as deepcreek has said, but i see a product being sold by a high school girl

She's a partner in the development... I still say it's designed to be used without wings... Kreg's Festool set up, Sawhelper or a Katz style, how are you going to keep the trim from flapping all over the place?

I like the idea of sliding the jig back and forth. But it should be taller for bigger crown, and have a way to clamp it in place to the back fence of the saw. It would be hard to try to hold both the jig and the piece of crown in place at the same time. With it clamped to the saw, no need for two slots in the upright fence. One would be all you would need for any angle. And no catch on the bottom of the jig to interfere with extension wings. Their jig would have four cuts in the back if you had to make any 22 1/2 degree cuts for a135 degree corner. Any odd angles, and all of a sudden you'd have a big dangerous hole in the back of the jig.

P.S. Better have a saw with a depth stop on it, or the help will cut it right in half.

It appears to be a perfectly serviceable jig. The issue isn't that, but rather the fact it's practically identical to one the Gary knocks together for crown demos. The ones that I've made using his model have been had for about 10 minutes work & some drops of lumber.

I understand where you are coming from but there are so many things out there on the market whether it is ladder jacks, clamps or special framing squares or any number of literally hundreds of items were self made previously. In over 4 decades of reading construction type magazines I have seen some wonderful stuff made by ordinary people some of which make it into production.
I've bought (and I'm sure most of you do) many do-dads that are better, smaller and lighter built than I could make and happen to be sold right at the time I needed it. Some turn out to be crap but enough turn out to be real gems that keeps me buying them the odd time.
If you and Gary are using it, then it must be a good idea so obviously the idea isn't crap. The fact they are trying to market it seems to be the problem with some people.

Agreed, Roger. I have no problem at all with folks marketing products they've invented. I just find it a bit ironic that almost anyone who has the capability to install crown would likely have the ability to make a quick version of the jig being discussed.

It's been said that there are no new ideas, only new ways to market them (or something to that effect). I don't buy into that entirely, but it does seem to apply here.

IMHO that jig is dangerious. Not clamping it to the saw is a bad idea and did you see how you cut angles over 45 degrees? That is completely absurd. The last DIYer on here probably has one of those. If you know nothing you buy that pos. Greg, Gary Katz makes much better jigs!!

Years ago there was a program about inventions. In fact no one really invents anything totally. They take an idea and combine it with something that had already been invented or a procedure. It's the combination of an idea with procedure and material make it work. Of course timing works as well.
As an aside, as we speak, my wife is coming back from Lee Valley tools with some crown molding brackets which will help solo installations (I hope). Yes, I've tried many things but wasn't happy. I'll try these three things and see if they work. Could I make them myself, sure, but 30 minutes of paid time pays for these.:)
