Free 2009 IECC Download
Click here. Got a notice from my local NAHB chapter. A few steps, registration required, but it works.

Re: Free 2009 IECC Download
Good share Dan.
ICC has protected pdfs of all the International codes here:
http://publicecodes.citation.com/icod/index.htm
Several states have their own version here
http://publicecodes.citation.com/st/index.htm
Virginia is stored somewhere else on the site. ICC seems to hide these free versions pretty well! you may be able to get to them from the main ICC site but I don't know how.
Our local jurisdictions have helpfully posted the links on their own sites. I believe the reason these free versions are up is because of a court case where a homeowner objected to paying money to see a legal provision that his local government had adopted, and the local jurisdictions decided they had to have a way for people to at least see the code.
It's kind of frustrating to use protected pdfs though, you can't cut and paste so it's hard to email someone the section of the code you're talking about.Doug

In Adobe Reader you should be able to just click in one corner of the selected document with your mouse, pull diagonally to form a box around the selected area, cut and paste as a graphics file into an e-mail or other document. Here are detailed instructions.

Re: Free 2009 IECC Download
Shouldn't the code be free anyway? I've always paid for them and wondered why afterwards.

Re: Free 2009 IECC Download
For a while there, I could guess my way through code issues, there used to be a lot more common sense when BOCA and the UBC was around.
Now with all these new codes and programs I don't really know what I am doing. Here in MA we have a Stretch Energy Code which was adopted Town by Town, the rest of the Towns not under the Stretch Code are under IECC 2009, but many projects are still under 2006 as they permited before July 1st.
Then there's Energy Star, with the MA program now changing going into 2011, then the national program is going to version 2A for a brief period, then to version 3 in the later 2011.

That would be a concept hug? Free code books or access as part of your licensing. When you renew you automatically get the legal tools you need to comply.
They are all crooks---non bigger than the EPA...Like I said if they want compliance they should be handing these renovate right brochure out for free at every home supply checkout instead of making us pay.Tom

Re: Free 2009 IECC Download
EPA and ENERGY STAR are free to get, including some of the best, illustrated guidebooks in construction.
Code is a total scam though. Before the internet they paid for their conventions by selling $20 books for $55, now with the internet tough luck.
Wow, Alex, it is letting me copy text. Funny because I know I tried before with no luck. Or maybe I'm thinking of the free NFPA codes. SOme files are built so you can't copy things out of them. THanks for the tip!Doug
