Don't hang many doors anymore but ordered it anyway. It's always good to learn different approaches.

I have 7 doors into old jambs tomorrow so when the video comes all my mistakes will be fresh on my mind and I'll wish I had the video.

Re: Gary' new door hanging DVD is out
I just watched Gary's dvd. It is very well done, covers most every aspect of door hanging. I would strongly recommend it for someone wishing to learn how to hang doors. It is interesting how there are different approaches to doing the job. For as many times Gary's approach was the same as mine there were as many when they were different. The thought of not having wedges behind the hinges would really worry me and go against the way I was taught , but then I've never done production work. I think I may need a little more persuading.

Here is a tool for those interested in the quick and effective hinge bending technique.
Even though many disagree with such procedure many others love it.

That's a trick I need to learn (my dad doesn't know it, but he isn't a carpenter), but I never heard of a ghost door. What is that?

Re: Gary' new door hanging DVD is out
Some doors for an "x" number of reasons won't remain open all the way and will tend to close down all by themselves.
The hinge pin is bend slightly to create resistance and that helps the door to remain in the position it was left.
It works well on hollow core doors but not on heavy doors.
The main reason for that problem is the hinge jamb out of plumb.

Re: Gary' new door hanging DVD is out
I have one of those but for heavy weights. I bend the hinges without the pins in them though and only to adjust the gap. There are tools on the market to bend hinges on a door while it's swinging without bending the pin.
To stop a door from swinging on it's own you take the pin out put it on the ground and give it a little tap with your hammer to bend it
