Treated wood and corrosion of hangers
I have been specifying a layer of membrane tape such as Grace Vycor between heavy galvanized connectors and the beams and joists they clip together. I do this because of all the concerns about corrosion of metal the chemicals in treated wood can cause.
How much of a concern is this with the latest generation of pressure-treated woods?

What exactly do you mean by "latest generation"?

Whatever they are selling at a lumberyard near you, and not that treated using chromium copper arsenate (CCA). Pressure-treated lumber processes have evolved over the last twenty-five years.

Yeah, I know they've evolved. But they continue to evolve so fast that the answer to your question depends on which kind you are using. See http://www.strongtie.com/productuse/...l?source=hpnav

Re: Treated wood and corrosion of hangers
Bob - keep doing it. I took out some Z-max connectorss a few years ago that was completely dry for 5 years; but was outside. I was amazed at the corrosion that had taken place already. I isolate everything since I saw that corrosion.

Re: Treated wood and corrosion of hangers
Dave, what was the wood treatment in question? A few years + 5 years ago might mean 2003 or 2004, when ACQ was first coming out.
Everything here is MCQ right now. I don't know much about how that compares, but hopefully it's better.

The layer of membrane is cheap insurance, regardless of what lumber is being used, IMO.

Chuck... new business opportunity for you... find a Chinese sheet metal plant and have them make you a couple container-loads of naval bronze hangers... sell them at the really high-end jobs. The LU28 in bronze should list for about $150. Guaranteed to outlast the rest of civilization.

It was installed summer 2004; not sure what it was as we get new things a little slower. Like Chuck, we are coastal as well and things take a beating...

Re: Treated wood and corrosion of hangers
If the hanger that you can see corrodes, I wonder what's happening to the nails that you can't see.
