Dewalt/Paslode nail guns
I want to purchase a 15 Ga. and an 18 Ga. nail gun. Either the Paslode or the Dewalt. I use air guns mostly but I can't tell you how many times I've packed up everything and realized that I didn't nail off something or I need to throw a nail or two into something. I had the Paslode about 6 years ago and they seemed to be touchy.(temperture; cleanliness etc) They failed maybe 20% of the time. Have they gotten better over the years? How are the Dewalts? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Re: Dewalt/Paslode nail guns
I work with two guys with the dewalts. One gun is so, so. The other one sucks. Come to think of it, neither owner takes care of their tools at all though; so you can probably dismiss this post entirely! Sorry...

Re: Dewalt/Paslode nail guns
I don't own one,
But every time 2 nails need to be shot at Grandma's store,
or you have to get into some ones apt, condo, house, for a coffee
and cigarette money repair, this deal would come in handy.
I don't own one,"cause every time I get the urge to purchase,
its at that end of the job moment of hind sight.

That needs to be updated to 1899.
Gonna be very self sufficient now.

Re: Dewalt/Paslode nail guns
Paslode doesn't make a cordless 15 gauge. Only 16 and 18. You can get a 15 ga Dewalt. Do a search and you'll find a lot threads debating the pros and cons of each.

Re: Dewalt/Paslode nail guns
I own all three sizes in Dewalt, 15, 2x16, and 18 ga. no complaints whatsoever, just keep the batts. fully charge and forget about compressors, hoses etc. most of the time I only carry the 16 ga just to install trim, if am doing doors then I'll pack up the 15, the 18 dont use it that much but its good to have when installing trim around cabinets!
the paslode, I was able to get two framing guns from ebay and so far so good, it just takes some use to working around the gas!Last edited by Guango88; 11-01-2009 at 04:47 PM.

Re: Dewalt/Paslode nail guns
I own a Paslode 18G, it works pretty good most of the time. The big thing is to keep it clean, and the fuel cells current. Most of the time that it doesn't work, the date on the fuel cell is about 2 months past. The biggest pain is the driver doesn't return all the way, usually it's dirty and needs oil. But for shooting a couple nails here and there, it works. Oh yeah, keep it warm.
You can't keep doing the same thing, and expect different results.

Re: Dewalt/Paslode nail guns
I have never been too happy with paslodes. I had the framing gun and it didn't toe nail- and I've worked for companies that had the 16 ga. straight and 4 out of 6 nails would actually shoot. We cleaned them and got them serviced regularly too. The Dewalt is a nice gun- I've used it several times. Your best bet is to get the Senco 16 ga. It is lighter than the Dewalt and less expensive- and no fuel cells in comparison to the paslode. I just did a small job with 4 5/8 crown and it worked awesome. I can't find it at any lumber yards or supply stores, just on amazon..

Re: Dewalt/Paslode nail guns
I have been using a DeWalt 15 ga for the past 8 or 9 months with no complaints. I can run 4 or 5 rooms of crown on a single charge and no moving around hoses and compressor. The weight is substantial so I don't walk around with it hanging on my side for long, But I consider it a more than fair trade off to the time savings. I haven't used my Senco 15 ga since getting this gun.

Re: Dewalt/Paslode nail guns
There was a cordless Senco on one site where I was and it often had problems. My two cents... Never used any of the three...
I bought the small Senco compressor which will shoot a few 16g per motor starting, several 18g and run the 23 nicely. Good for a few pieces of trim or 23 pins and "no more nails" doing kitchen crown, the reason for the purchase.David Tuttle

Re: Dewalt/Paslode nail guns
I have used a Dewalt 16 ga.battery powered nailer, very heavy and expensive. For less money you can buy a senco 1 hp compressor and a cheap 16 gauge gun. Costco was selling the senco compressor with a 18ga gun for, if I recall correctly, $125.

Re: Dewalt/Paslode nail guns
i have been using the pasloads 18 have 2 and the 16 angle have 2 and use them 98% of the time for trim work. have 2 of each so when I do crown my helper can shoot it off also and comes in handy for a back up.
had the dewalts, and hated them. top heavy, batteries heavy. and just was not happy.
always make sure you have any extra battery, and gas cartridges. and yes sometimes they dont shoot when expected, but overall they are great.Kreg

Re: Dewalt/Paslode nail guns
I don't do a lot of 2nd fix work, but on the last job I hired one, (Paslode) the first one would not fire, sent back, 2nd one the same, Third time lucky, worked reasonably well.
I want to get a 2nd fix nail gun, but not a Paslode.
Anybody used a Makita, 1st or 2nd fix, and was it better than the Paslode.
Or do I just get a Dewalt.
Brian
PS this is the system we used on the last job, 2nd and 3rd pictures down on lefthand side.
When I work out how to get the photos of the phone I'll put a couple up

Re: Dewalt/Paslode nail guns
Check out the Senco nitrogen powered gun at Fine Homebuilding tool hound section. Will be out in 2010. Battery only, recycles the gas with no exhaust. $350 - $400. Looks cool.
