Default do you see a difference in drywall brands

I have just finished working on a job for a guy who bought drywall at a supply house. It was 10 ft long LaFarge brand. I was not at all impressed. Found several voids in the stuff. Felt awfully soft and seemed to get corners that did not break but would crush. Did not seem to cut very cleanly either. Did I get a bad batch or what?

So the question is one brand perfered over another by you guys. Never used this before and do not want to use it again.

Nat.Gyp. all the way here if I get the rock. Lafarge, American, ProRoc, all sub standard compared to NG. Peace, Ed, muddy.

Never use anything else except USG and National Gypsum. Georgia-Pacific and LaFarge are the worst. Yes, large quality differences between brands.

LaFarge sucks, its always been like that. Temple sucks too, been seeing alot of it lately, it will suck the water out of the mud faster than you can wipe it off.

Lafrage drywall does suck azz! Their Rapid Coat is the ballz though. I agree stick with Nat Gyp or USG or drywall.

GP make Dens Armor Plus-so they are "ok" too I guess...

OK, so I am not an idiot who just seemed to think the stuff was not so great. Thanks for the confirmation guys. Will have to ask if it was a price or something that got him to select this company to supply the materials or what was the reason.

We are installing it on metal studs which I have decided I do not like as well as I thought I did. Like the straightness and all that stuff. But cannot stand the studs turning away from the screw on the first one or two that you try to install. Until you get the stud captive by a couple of screws these seemed to want to turn away more than I remembered.

they have come out with an even lighter gauge stud,, that makes you pull your hair out,, if you can't hold it with your hand,, its like impossible to get a screw in it. Home Depot sells em (hooray) and most of the screws will strip out when they get set (hooray again) but I guess it saves the GC a dollar or 2

Actually, you guys are talking about working with 25 gauge studs, that suck. I use typically 20 gauge, and you won't have that problem. The person who buys metal studs from Lowes /HD is an idiot. They are pay 5-6 per stud where I can get it for 1.50

I've only had the "pleasure" of using LaFarge once and will not be putting myself through that again. My two biggest issues with it were that it had alot of voids and when cutting I would hit some spots that acted like rocks to my knife. It would actually rise up over whatever was in there and a few times chipped the blade.
"We can do it, You can't help" My son (3 at the time) told the Home Depot guy on one of numerous trips. The guy walked away rather dejected.
