Monster Sander
Don't recall ever seeing a 42" sander before. Wonder where you would get paper for such a beast?

Re: Monster Sander
That has to be a shop built contraption. I find it impossible to imagine what you'd use this for.

Re: Monster Sander
I was wondering the same thing. The seller also has a couple other disc sanders listed. I think they're 15" & 20" models. He's also got some beautiful vintage woodworking equipment...http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/tls/1140499534.html

If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say, "If I had a dollar for every time....", I'd be a rich man.

Re: Monster Sander
These are not that unusual, may have come from an old foundry pattern shop. You don't want to ever get on the uphill side of that disc though. That Crescent planer he has with the blade sharpening attachment is a nice find, really a great planer.

Re: Monster Sander
Great prices on the stuff. That Porter jointer could easily be priced at 3-4 times that. If I didn't already have two 16" jointers I would consider a trip to the windy city.

Re: Monster Sander
What can I say, I like jointers. The "one that got away" a couple years ago was a 20" with a very rare "Church and Jackson" self feed. What an incredible piece of machinery. The idiots that had it broke it up and scrapped it a couple days before I got there along with a "sticker" (sash profile moulder), a Hermance door clamp machine and several other goodies. They were almost going to toss an Emmert patternmaker's vise before my interest in the thing prompted them to keep it, thrown back underneath the workbench.

Re: Monster Sander
That jointer would look so nice out in my shop, and for $800... what a steal!

Re: Monster Sander
There are a lot of good pricing on used machinery these days. About 1/2 what it was 3 years ago. A year ago I picked up a 14K saw for 3K.

Nope, it's one of these. Now I see the price has dropped.

Re: Monster Sander
That is a nice saw Ottoman. The price you got it for was a steal. Was that an auction or a negotiated sale? Some auctions I have attended are really incredible. I bought an Italian made 16" table saw with sliding table and mortising capability for $125.00. The owner told me that he paid almost $ 5000.00 for it in 1968. I advised him not to go the auction route but he felt it would provide the best results. His auctioneers were idiots, blew through an entire lumber yard of contents in 5 hours. They did not break up any of the quantity items. Forty-five SKIDS of 30 lb roofing felt sold for $ 45.00. Five tons of aluminum siding and accessories sold for $ 500.00. That guy laughed all the way to the scrap yard.
