Knaack Monster Box, Anyone?
Anybody using one of these? http://www.knaack.com/jobsite_storag...monsterbox.php
If so, is it a worthwhile upgrade over the regular gang boxes you've used in the past?Greg

The tall piano box is much nicer to have onsite than the typical chest box, but "worthwhile" is hard to quantify :)
They're a pain to move and store when not in use on a job, just because of the weight (400lbs or so) but you'll love having it when it comes to storing tools and fasteners onsite."I'll bend over backwards to help anybody, but I ain't bending over forwards for nobody"

Re: Knaack Monster Box, Anyone?
Paul, I'm actually considering it for our trailer, where it would reside more or less permanently. I'm thinking of putting it on wheels & since there's a ramp door on the trailer, moving it shouldn't be too difficult when the need arises.
I hadn't considered the tall piano box. I'll have to see if it will fit in the space I have blocked out for it.Greg

If you're gonna keep it in the trailer, I'm guessing this is the one you'd prefer? (the upright piano box probably won't have head clearance in a trailer to open w/o being a total PITA)

Wheels for moving = YES
Now, keeping it in place in a moving trailer while it's on wheels could be tricky, especially as top heavy as they can tend to be."I'll bend over backwards to help anybody, but I ain't bending over forwards for nobody"

Re: Knaack Monster Box, Anyone?
I worked for a GC in California that had the smallest KNAACK box they made with a very cheap fax machine in it. They were tired of having to replace $100 fax machines that seemed to get feet.....well you can guess what happened. Someone stole the $300 gang box and the $100 fax machine.
I have one that I use for site work. It is pretty beat up, but has held up for almost 10 years. Knaack makes by far the best box out there.PRAY FOR OBAMA.....Psalm 109:8

Re: Knaack Monster Box, Anyone?
The Monster box has some nice refinements but most of them would not be necessary for me. The heavier frame might help it endure more abuse on the job, i.e. moving with a crane or forklift or whatnot. Doesn't apply to me. The locking mechanism on my #90 boxes is fine, if someone wants to open it they will destroy the box anyway. Casters are a major plus if the box is inside, worthless in the dirt of course. Greg, in a trailer I don't see how the upgrades would help, and if you're hoping it will be break-in-proof I would think again.

Re: Knaack Monster Box, Anyone?
I use a pretty large job box these days. It's not the big Momma you are looking at, but it's about 2 x 4 x 2.5 deep.
I put inflatable knobby castors on it so I can wheel it nearly anywhere.
It basically lives outdoors, chained to a tree or a deck or whatever I can find.
I'm not working in high crime areas, so I don't worry about it too much, but the wheeling on scene factor is huge for me. It saves a lot of time walking back and forth.
I tried moving it fully loaded with my mini-skid and it was tough to move around because it was 4 feet wide. I load it longways in my van most times, or, if it's empty we just chuck it (literally into/on top of whatever crap is in in my dump trailer.Your source for:
