painting AZEK
Probably an old thread but what have you used to paint this product for exterior applications. Mr local BM and SW paint stores don't seem to have a clue what is recommended. I have a job that is coming up and I want to paint it white when done. I have seen what happens when left unpainted and I DON'T want to go there.

Re: painting AZEK
If you go the SW route you have to request the vinyl safe additive - they have to add it at the store, it's not in the can off-the-shelf.

Re: painting AZEK
Interesting. Only SW listed paint is SuperPaint in satin and flat only, while others are in all sheens.
Who paints exterior trim flat or satin? Especially white? Never seen it.

Re: painting AZEK
The info from the Azek site is from 2006, it a little dated in my book & nothing newer is available on their website.
The SW site lists Duration, Resilience & SuperPaint - all in flat, satin & gloss as being Vinylsafe. The only prep is to wash & rinse, no primer, although Resilience and SuperPaint recommend 2 coats. http://www.sherwin-williams.com/pro/...atings/paints/ SuperPaint is also available in high gloss but the Vinylsafe logo is not on that datasheet.
It also looks like from the SW site that the Vinylsafe additive is now a standard ingredient and not a store add-in, I'll double check that today when I'm at my local store.

Re: painting AZEK
The word from my local SW;
Prep: PVC must be clean, dry and dull (insert ex-wife joke here). Smooth surfaces should be lightly sanded. NO primer! The primers are not vinylsafe.
Duration: 1 coat
Resilience & Superpaint: 2 coats
Not all SW colors can be mixed for pvc. Check with the store regarding your color choice for pvc prior to purchase.

Re: painting AZEK
My SW shop had a technical bulletin on it that was very informative. Actually, I was blown away by how much the rep at the store knew. It made me feel like I had a chance.

Re: painting AZEK
Also keep in mind that it takes a while for the paint to fully bond and adhere to the PVC. Probably due to PVC being nonporous.
Prepainting and then handling it might not be a good idea.
